Looking for XM V6 Starter motor

Post by Joe T »

I have mashed the gearbox in my trusty old XM 3 Litre starter motor, currently been quoted £130 +vat for a new one, phew... that would double the value of the car.

Anyone out there breaking one or has a starter sitting around?
My car is an 3 Litre SEI, XM Estate, Manual Box, 1992, its not the twincam engine.

Cheers

If it has a gearbox, is it the same motor as used on some diesels?

V6 Starter

Post by citroenxm »

My V6 Auto starter buggered up.

ANY petrol starter will fit. You can change the front part from your exisiting starter to another one quite easily.

I fitted a starter from an Xantia 1600i PETROL L reg when my starter packed up on my H reg V6 Auto....

V6 Starter

I have had it apart, the gears sit in the front part. Do you mean just swapping the casings around. Then put the gears in from the other one, I did try and order a gear set but they didnt fit. apparently the ratios differ between models!

I looked at some other starters at a scrappy but they all looked different, this is a tiny thing that punches out 1.5KW, I wondered if a diesel one might do the job as the cranking load would be the same but all the casings look different.

GSF Offer an exchange one for £92 so I may go for that.

Cheers

Hi.
I didn't swap any gears around, both units were Vaelo units, I just swapped the housing the BOLTS to the GEARBOX over on the motors..

Maybee It was a lucky one ...

Good luck
