Xantia going sick at high revs!

Post by handyman »

Hi, I have been looking at a low mileage 1.8i, 16V which has a problem at high RPM. The engine starts and pulls well at low revs but at high speed goes sick and starts to splutter, then picks up and runs fine for a while.
Am I looking for a fuel starvation problem or an ignition problem? Car seems to drive OK otherwise and has done less than 60K miles.

theres not much to go wrong ignition wise.
all youve got is four plugs and a coil rail.
obvious things first: correct spark plugs fitted, correct fuel filler cap.
make sure all fuel pipes are ok,havent been crushed or jacked up on!

I was thinking along the lines of a blocked fuel filter and even a dodgy pump?

yep the filter is an inexpensive item to change.
the fuel pumps are normally very reliable on the xantia
