BX TD heater hose

Post by Rob Marshall »

Hello everybody!!
Followign on from my last post, the BX is shortly about to receive a new waterpump and cambelt. While I am there, I am tempted to replace the braided heater hose that runs up and over the turbo, as it split at the end in March; so it must be on its way out anyway.
Does anyone know where to get one from other than the dealer?
Cheers!!!

Had to get mine from a dealer about 3 years ago - no alternative that we could find.

I make up any expensive hoses with sections of hose and copper pipe. Its a lot cheaper to put a bend in a copper pipe than than to buy one in a rubber pipe!

I thought of using Peter's idea of copper pipe when my hoses needed replacing but was concerned as to the implications of introducing copper into the circuit and possibly causing massive electrochemical corrosion. Plain steel wouldn't be a problem - not sure about stainless but you'd never bend the horrible stuff anyway.

I've used it with no apparent problems, radiators always used to be copper. You can use copper fittings to make the bends if they are to tight, rather than bending the pipe.

You TD will have an enormous aluminium radiator and the heater matrix is probably the same. Its really the aluminium corrosion I'm concerned about.

My local Citroen dealer has quoted me £14.61 for the hose; but I can't help feeling that is a bit cheap. we have gone through on the phone that it is the hose that comes out of tegh matrix, runs across the bulkhead, and into the back of the head near the HP pump.
Does that price sound right to you? I thought it was going to be around £30?

I looked on citroen-pr.net and found:
96017618 HEATER WATER HOSE 42.23 49.62
96019898 RADIATOR WATER INLET HOSE 70.08 82.34
96047324 HEATER WATER HOSE 20.61 24.22
2 numbers at the RH side are prices EX / INC Vat. 96017618 appears to be the one you want. This makes sense, as I remember Jon quoting about 135 + VAT for all three hoses. These are the special braided ones. Of couse it's possible that the dealer has one lying about on the shelf he's prepared to get shot of cheap, but....
Note that the second 2 are different if the car is RP > 5638 (changed to fuel filter on the thermostat housing) because the water pump inlet is different.
You can see the exploded diagrams at:
Early: http://www.citroen-pr.net/catalogues/il ... 353230.gif
Later: http://www.citroen-pr.net/catalogues/il ... 35323A.gif
Items 4,7,8 in each case, 7 being the one you want I think.

you are not the only one! My original hose split a few months ago, dumping all the coolant on the road: fortunately the idiot light came up, so I stopped!
I cut the end off the hose, and put it back on with a superstrong clip, but I would like to replace the pipe now, as I have to drain the coolant to change the water pump when I do the cambelt. That bundle of joy happens in 2 weeks!

Just got to Citroen for the new hose: £19! I did question whether it was the right one, they were insistant.
Got there in my lunch break; guess what. Wrong hose. They had the non braided one. Typical case of: "Computer Says No!"
Anyway, they are reordering. Price of a hose: £42 plus VAT - OUCH!!!
So who is the guy at the BX club who is remaking them???!!
