Need help again

Post by rossnunn »

Friend of mine has a S plate Xara TD with aircon. The fans work fine, as does the aircon (revs dip) but there is nothing coming out of any of the vents.
I have taken apart the control gear & everything seems to be ok.
There is a small motor at the base of the dashboard, I'm wondering if its that.
The motor that controls the intake/recirculate motor works fine.
The pollon filter was blocked, so I have removed that.
I could really do with a exploded diagram of the heater assemberly or similar. Is this just one of those, put the wire back on jobbies??
Cheers All

The engine revs will dip when the fans come on because there is a load coming on BUT an S reg onwards Xsara should have the electronically controlled idle and the idle speed should go up to fast idle when the aircon comes on.
My Xantia is low on gas, when you turn the aircon on the radiator fans come on (slow speed) but the compressor doesn't kick in and the idle speed doesn't go up. There should be a pressure switch on the dryer bottle with 4 terminals on it. If you bridge the two thicker wires the compressor should start (this all assumes the system is similar to that on my Xantia).

I'm going to sound like I'm stating the obvious here but I will anyway. The vents can be turned off individually...

Can we assume then that cooled air is being disributed by the AC system ( if the compressor is reducing the engine revs it suggests this is the case)? So, in my simple outlook, is this a problem of the the cooled air reaching the interior? ( As what Kowalski suggests), which may point to a problem with the ventilation system? perhaps a bit of an obvious point?

Ok Ok forget the aicon, pretend it hasn't got it.
I cannot get any air from the fan into the cabin though any of the vents at all, not even the windscreen vents.
HELP!

Have you put the filter holder/cover back in ?
Otherwise all the air will escape before it reaches the vents.

Can you hear the interior blower motor fan running??
It may be the resistor pack, or even simpler the fuse to the blower motor!
If the A/C is climate control, then the fan speed is controlled by a control unit within the A/C dash controls.
Normal A/C will have a fan speed dial, have you tried it full on? Even if the resistor pack has gone the fan should still work on full blast.
More info available if required.

If you can hear the blower fan going round then it will be producing air unless the 'blades' have come away from the spindle/motor. Therefore the air must be going somewhere, so either the cable from the knob to the flaps (fnar fnar) has broken/detatched etc or it's simply leaking out into the realms of the dashboard.
I'm with kowalski, take the dash out and see how many bits you have left at the end......

ok the fan runs sweet at any speed. I thought it might be the cable but if you flick it between Screen & Feet & listen carefully you can hear the flap closing.
Looks like a dash out then. Glad its not mine :D
