2.1 TD thermostat's

Post by ActivaV6uk »

for those of you who dont know, there mounted at the back of the engine not at the front like all the other D/TD's. I've just found this out after looking at some french cooling diagrams and then checking the engine. This means that the one i bought from GSF is utterly useless to me, Jon can you get the discription changed to "not 2.1" as its lightly yo help people in the future. it also looks like FSF dont sell this part so its another thing to orfer from citroen!

Any chance of the XM thermostat being the same?

acording to citroen the XM has its thermostat at the back too. so yes same part. its not worth worrying about its a 36 mile round trip to GSF or i can walk to the local citroen dealer. Ive got another 20 items on order with them as of friday any way as there not standard service parts.

You need eyes in the ends of your fingers to change it!

Oh yes, for some reason Citroen stuck the thermostat round the back of the head on the 2.1TD, despite the fact that it has a water housing on the front where it could have easily lived.
2.1TD Thermostat 133872 >RP7189, 133871 RP7190>.
What GSF number did you get given? I will email them and ask them to change description on that part.

I think that the reason that they put it in the return pipe rather than the flow, is to stop the perenial problem of air being trapped in the head when refilling the system, thus reducing the risk of a cracked head, and this certainly seems to be the case,as I have never come across a cracked 2.1td head, I have certainly never had one myself, in an XM I mean! and I am on my fourth.

Not at the moment mine is still not fully in the car it was actualy really easy to remove the sump yesterday to clean it out and replace the gasket, (it wasnt bad there were some carbon deposits that were easly removed with diesel. The thermostat came out really easy too, I've desided not to install it to the car until the thermostat is replaced now any way.

As a matter of interest I searched my downloaded Quinton Hazell catalogue and it would seem that this thermostat is unique to some of the 2.1 diesel engines. (Thats the whole of the catalogue - all makes!)

Weird isnt it, I'm also suprised that it is ware it is doesnt this mean that the water runs the other way round the engine to normal?

As the thermostat is in the return side, the water doesn't get hot enough to open it, so it has a hot feed from the head injected into the thermostat housing. I wondered how it worked!

Hi jon, this post has been very weird from what i have seen. yesterday when i posted your message wasnt there neather was Peter.N.'s post of the 11 Apr 2005 : 10:03:17 no idea why these weret there when i posted!
any way.
part number for the part i was given. N17624 the discription is Xantia D/TD all that needs to change is 1.9 added before the D/TD (so Xantia 1.9 D/TD). to help the folowing are also things that can be changed/ addded.
thermostat N17632 currently for the XM can be added to the xantia parts list under "Xanita 2.1 TD".
Clutch N18968 XANTIA 2.1 TD can be changed to "XANTIA 2.1TD/2L turbo". (citroen clas these as the same part).
Hope this helps,
Andy
