ZX volcane brake compensators

Post by mrbump »

Hello,
On the back of the ZX volcane with discs, there are those compensator things that (i think) limit flow to the back brakes under heavier braking to prevent lockup.
Has anyone ever removed these when replacing a brake line? Have they been known to fail in the closed position? Would it be dangerous to leave them off?[:0]
Thanks

Yes it would be dangerous to leave them off. Extremely dangerous.
When you've got no load in the rear of the car, the brake compensator reduces rear brake force accordingly. Without them your brake bias would be very rearward and that would mean that the rear brakes would be prone to locking up long before the fronts are doing much braking. It would also mean that the rear brakes did more braking than they should and would be prone to overheating.
