zx flat inital acceleration

where did the engine come from? i've just been reading another couple of forums and they also have talked about modding the 1.4i by getting a multipoint head.

I just bought a multipoint 1.4. They cann be found in all little frenchies

I don't know the ZX range well, so can you tell me if it's carb or injection ?
If it's a carb car then I'd suggest the accelerator pump diaphragm as the most likley culprit otherwise the timing advance system in the distributor might be stuck (I've seen this on a couple of cars)

Bugger...just noticed the i after 1.4 !!
With that in mind a dirty or damp contact inside the throttle potentiometer (or a dodgy cable/conection) could have that effect. If you unhook the cable and fully open/shut the throttle by hand several times it 'might' help a bit. If it does you'll need the replace the potentiometer eventually.

on my old R19 1.4 monopoint injection I had a similar problem. I bought it no tax or mot etc and the car had been stood for about 9 months. Got it thru the MOT after the garage used some sort of additive in the fuel but the car hesitated for a few seconds under accelaration and then would rocket away. It just went away gradually the more I used the car, going completely when I did a 500 mile motorway trip in one day.
