Unread post by citroennut »

hi
someone out there bound to be able to help, there is no fuel coming through the pipe, tried sucking (yeah i know) but just created vacuum in pipe, car's fully down (of course). just got car and only had it running once, connected temp. fuel can to carb. so, does this beast have fuel filter, if so where?, if not any suggestions. all help now and in the future, which will no doubt be required!! much appreciated

Temporary can to carb. Run engine, Lift CX. Support on stands. Remove filler cap. Could be crud in tank. Blow, don't suck! Might be due to a blocked filler cap vent hence remove cap. Might be due to Lying fuel gauge. Dip tank with stick.

Try blowing down the pipe preferably with footpump or similar, have an accomplice listen at the filler flap, should hear bubbling, you may clear a blockage in tank pickup this way,

Is this before or after the (Mechanical?) fuel pump? Will the pump lift fuel from can? maybe Put another couple of gallons in to stir the crud up or siphon tank out.

Simon -
Lift up the boot carpet. You should then see a large black plastic cover towards seat back-rest & RHS of car. Under here you find both feed & return fuel lines - and the tank sender wires.

Only later cars have the inspection hole Anders speaks of in the boot (trust me I know from bitter experiance).
It will be cr@p in the tank, or the factory fitted fuel filters breaking up internally and dispersing crap into your carby.
No-one seems to realise it exists, but if you put the back of the car on jackstands and crawl under to you can see the front of the fuel tank where the fuel lines exit the tank there will be a rubber shield. move this aside to find the bog standard teeny weeny fuel filter.
BTW Citroen... Brilliant place to fit this filter, who in there right mind would know to look for it here .... I suggest replacing the filter as it's unlikely is *ever* been changed before trying to flush the tank.
The easiest way to clear the blockage is to remove the fuel filler cap, pull the fuel line from the suction side of the pump (yeah I know, access is really easy due to the location of the fuel pump at the back of the block .....). Turn you compressor down to about 10psi and blow back through the tank until you hear the bubbling of the air leaving the tank. Do NOT use high pressure to do this, you'll break/blow something.
