Most of the BX engines.
Two versions of the 1.4 carb petrol, two of the 1.6 carb petrol, 1.9 carb petrol and the 1.7 turbo diesel (AKA the 1.8 turbo diesel when fitted to Pugs). At least 2 versions of the 1.9i - cat and non-cat. (Is the 1.9 16V the same as the Mi16?)
Xantia had 8v and 16v versions of the 1.6(?) 1.8 and 2.0 injection engines. Also an early version with a 155bhp 2.0 16v.
I was going to mention the GX, CX and 2CV but I've been beaten to it. I'll just have to dig up some info on the Traction Avant.[:D]

STOP!!!! so we're saying there's more than a handful.
I was told a odd thing today, by my brother - so its probably crap but here goes.
You could fit a Civic Type R enginee into a Citroen - yeh thats what I thought!
It's aparently (coming from my bro don't 4get) because there's a Citroen lump in a Rover, the same Rover uses another engine, which is also used in the same Civic shell type as the VVTi Type R?
mmmm I find it hard to beleive

DOH! and I was just about to mention the GS Birotor!
I'm sure its possible, after all there is somewhere a 2cv with a Rover/Buick V8 fitted to it(or rather a Rover/Buick V8 with a 2cv fitted to it....)
As to whether its a straightforward "drop it in" job...........

I't the old addage that you can have any engine in any car as long as you can do the fabrication to hold it in. Ever seen the drag cars know as 'funnies' they look like regular ford models but take the skin off and they have jet engines aswell as others underneath. Did once see a Nissan Micra with a V8 3.5ltr under the bulging bonnet. Could only go in straight line as fell over on corners.

well you see the 1.4i has a low end knock, its now leaking oil - badly, I fancy an engine upgrade but.
1.8L+ > will push the insurance / fuel bill up & I might aswell put a TD lump in & get some fuel back.
1.4 Turbo out of R5 > Complete madness, should go well, wouldn't suffer the cooling problems like in the R5, Probably wouldn't find a thrashed one, its got a carb! < Me & carbs are not the best of friends!

have to weigh up though how much it will cost to do a complete engine swap over say buying a zx volcane on ebay. May cost more to insure but an engine swap would be a lot. Also you would get better suspension and so on compared to your 1.4. I was reading my 16v handbook last night and its 56mph constant mpg figure is better than for the 2.0 8v and the 1.8 probably due to the higher gearing. Putting a r5t engine in your zx if its actually possible would probably hike the insurance up way over a zx volcane in standard form.
ps: going to leave the bootlid on till you come down, we can take it off then which is probably best
