You will need a key with it for sure. Go for a diesel model just to be sure it is compatible though I would imagine they will both be the same. It may be a broken wire!

It's probably an immobiliser decoder but I am not sure without seeing it. You could trace the starter wire to the switch and check for continuity with a meter.

It does appear that you might have an ignition switch fuse in the engine compartment. I got this from a site:

Alright
This is weird. I did what you told me by connecting two wires but we actutally used jumpers. So we connected the jumper from the starter motor where the two wires are and the other end on the positive side of the battery. It sparked and the car tried to turn but didnt. Making a noise like something was stuck when turning ignition. So we push started it and drove for a while. Then turned car off turned it on again and it started fine. Started it this morning and it was ok. Got a battery check done and the guy said that the battery is dying. On his meter i think it read 13.72 or something whatever that means
what could it have been? just the battery?

Sounds like solenoid or, more likely, starter was stuck. You probably freed it by making direct connection. If the meter was showing 13.72 volts that is not bad! Did he do a complete check including specific gravity? Keep the battery for a wee bit before splashing out on a new one. If it is down in the morning go for it. If the starter problem recurrs with a new battery go for a scrap unit. Glad you are mobile again.

I ended up buying a new battery last night. The battery i did have in there was 44 amps not ideal for a diesel but i have been using it for 3 years or so. Started this morning and it was fine no jutter or anything. Hopefully thi should have fixed it. If it happens again its got to defintely be a starter motor am i right and not an ignition switch cos it must have been that the starter motor was stuck like you said?
