Pressure in radiator

Post by sirgeorge »

My ZX TD appears to have a problem, It is loosing water, and there is pressure in the radiator. There is no oil in the water. It sounds a bit like a cylender head gasket problem. Any ideas. How difficult and how long will it take to do.

Sorry to say but I think you're right.
My idea of a head gasket job is a "two weekends job."
Drain oil & coolant, remove head and cam belt. Monday morning arrange to have head taken to engine rebuilder and get vales faced and seats cut and head pressure tested for cracks as well as any distortion removed by planing if necessary.
Order a VRS kit which should contain all gaskets and "O" rings etc, as well as a new cam belt to be fitted with the head. If stretchy type bolts used, get a new set of these at the same time.
Second weekend be prepared to fit head and cambelt as well as new oil, filter and fresh coolant.
If you have had any experience doing this sort of thing you'd probably get through it in around a full day.
Taking your time, learning as you go I'd reckon maximum Sat afternoon & Sunday Morning, first weekend.
All day Saturday and Sunday morn second weekend; see how close I go <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>
