Please can anyone advise me if it is possible to fit different front calipers to my ZX 1.9D Aura 1992?
The current ones are rubbish quite frankly. Do newer cars have modified calipers and is it a straight swap, will I have to change anything else apart from the caliper (I definetly need new discs and pads.....yet again!)?

Alf

Andyspares Jon was investigating a while ago if Berlingo discs and calipers will fit on a ZX. I can't unfortunatly remember the outcome. Jon? If they do fit you would damn good brakes! <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle> The discs are Xantia vented jobs and the calipers are I think, from a Peugout 406. Late model breakers yards should be a good source for the bits, if they fit......

Alf,
Firstly, what type of calipers do you have? I suspect from your post that they will be the Girling type (pads secured by 2 pins) with the solid discs. Lots of ZX's with this set up have suffered problems, and indeed at one time Citroen dealers were converting them to Bendix calipers which luckily don't have the same tendancy to seize. Its a straight swop from what I remember although you will need the caliper securing bolts for the Bendix calipers as they are different from the Girling system. And of course the Bewndix type pads. Discs are the same.
If you want to upgrade the front brakes further, use the calipers discs and pads from any ZX with vented front discs(aparts from 16v)which, although its a Girling system are quite reliable and don't seize if the caliper slides are greased now and again. You also get the benefit of vented discs.
Dave Bamber mentioned the conversion to the Berlingo set up. Yes, thats possible too, but I think its a bit over the top for the average ZX owner. Its possible, provided that your car has 14" wheels to clear the Berlingo/Xantia discs. You also have to use ZX 16v brake hoses. I accept no liability to anyone thinking of doing this conversion!

Thanks all for your help,
The calipers seize, both slides and piston on a fairly regular basis. The set up looks like the Girling system, two corroded slides. They are really not worth bothering faffing about with.
Jon, I will go for the Keep it Simple principle and opt for the bendix conversion.
