Unread post by johnlyn »

What is the correct fitment of glow plug for a 1995 Xantia 1.9TD, the haynes states champion CH163, i have been offered a set of CH168, what is the difference between these?

I'd go for the GSF Beru one's myself. People say that these are the best and the performance of other ones tends to quickly diminish.

Yep, GSF sell Beru, and you can be confident they'll do the job.
If you've not done this job before, look up archive posts about how to tackle the glow plug nearest the injector pump. It's tricky, and the reason why you don't want to risk fitting sub-standard plugs.

There are a couple of different fitments of glow plugs for the XUD engines, but if you get the wrong ones they'll last about a fortnight. Later XUD engines have 'afterglow' and the glowplugs are kept on for a couple of minutes after the engine starts to quieten the engine and stop it smoking. If you get the glowplugs that aren't designed to afterglow, they dont last very long at all.
The BERU ones seem to be the best, Bosch seem reasonable too, but I'd avoid Champion or Lucas they don't seem to last very well at all.
