Ds3

Post by Jennyg »

Hi im new to site so bear with me, I have a ds3 63 plate it's been running fine up until recently when started to loose power and shuddering when idle and fan was kicking in and staying on for at least 10 mins when engine off, anyway took it garage and they changed the coil packs which seemed to do the trick, however now when I drive the car the temp gauge goes just slightly over the middle mark and the engine is really hot and it smells a bit like burnt oil, when I'm driving if I turn the heating on full the temp gauge drops slightly to under the half way mark, could this be a faulty temp sensor, thanks

Could it be a faulty temp sensor or oil needs changing or coolant needs changing as it looks a bit murky

HI, It is normal for an engine to run slightly cooler when you put the heater on full because you are using the heater fan to take some heat out of the coolant and hence drop its temperature slightly. Because that is registering on your gauge I'd say the sensor is working as it should. It would seem that you may have a head gasket problem or some other fault in the ignition/fuelling system. You really need to get it diagnosed and see if there are any fault codes stored. :)

We changed the oil yesterday and it was pretty black to be honest and it hadn't been changed for a long time, what other symptoms of a blown gasket are there , I've got no warning lights
