MyWay/Rneg issues
Hi you all, new to this forum!
I recently bought a 2012 Peugeot 308, and I am loving the car so far, however, it has an annoying issue with the Rneg radio unit.
Firstly, the screen on the dash wouldn’t fold anymore, the buttons don’t respond at all. On top of that, I am loosing all sound from the unit (radio, cd, aux, parking sensors) intermittently while driving, and I am unable to do anything like changing the stations, source etc. I’ve checked the software version, it’s on 50.03, which is the latest from what I could find online
I was wondering on how would I approach to fix this problem? I’ve tried resetting the unit from the “secret” menu but to no avail. Was wondering if there is anything more I can do or do I need to change the whole unit?
Thanks in advance!

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
The screen retraction is handled by the following connections on the Quadlock connector at the back of the RNEG unit:
9, 11, 14 & 15
This also handles the speaker connections, so my first choice would be to extract the unit carefully after disconncting the battery following the BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure and checking that the quadlock connector and the wiring to it is all intact and secure.
Then follow the reconnection part of the battery in the procedure above and see if that resolves it.
Please note ALWAYS remove the quadlock connector first and reconnect it last before removing other connections to avoid damage to the unit and the screen.

This is super helpful, thanks a lot!
I’ll try and circle back with updates when I manage to follow these instructions.
What exactly should I look for once I remove the connector? Damaged or mangled wires? Or should I just clean the connection?

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
The Quad Lock connector holds wiring blocks for the other components, so you are looking to make sure all the wires are attached to their pins and that the pins are seated firmly in the connector blocks and that there is a good tight connection with nothing loose.

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
I’ve disassembled the unit, removed the quad lock connector and couldn’t find anything wrong with it, cleaned the pins and the connector it self, refitted everything and did the BSI reset procedure that you linked. But sadly, the issue still there and present, and the unit is still not folding.
Should i be searching for the replacement unit? Or is there more that I could do?

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
If there is nothing in the mechanism like an object that has fallen in and is affecting the gearing, then it is possible the unit has died, but a diagnostic with Diagbox would be the way to go in case there is another less obvious reason.

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
It seems that everything is pointing towards a dead head unit. The mechanism is working just fine as I am able to move it by hand freely.
I managed to source a used head unit locally, I'll try and swap them over in the following week and see if that resolves the issue.
Do I need some diag tool or just a simple BMI reset is fine once it's replaced?

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
You'll need to VIN code the unit to your vehicle and you may also need to configure relevant options in the replacement telematic unit ECU / BSI if not from an identical vehicle with identical equipment and options fitted as your own.

I see. This is turning out to be a bigger headache than initially thought.
Thanks for your help Marc, I'll see what I can come up with

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
Hi you all,
Happy holidays!
I wanted to post an update and ask for help with further troubleshooting.
I've managed to source a secondhand head unit (display only), however, when connected to my Rneg, the screen wouldn't turn on, but the folding mechanism was working. After some troubleshooting and disassembling, it turns out that the head units are not the same, but share all of the same cables.
Inspecting my head unit revealed to have a couple of issues, mainly with mangled and ripped cables and a broken bearing from the folding mechanism. After some Frankensteining and "borrowing" all of those from the donor unit, managed to solve the folding issue, and the head unit now opens/closes as the engineers intended it.
However, this sadly didn't resolve the issue that I am having with the intermittent sound losses. Haven't been able to pinpoint what might be the issue with that, and would love some guidance with that. One thing that might help is I noticed that surges in power (i.e. turning the steering wheel, pressing the brake pedal, turning on the defroster, etc.) would cause this. Furthermore, when this happens, I am unable to control any stations from the unit, and if I am to change the source during the loss, it gets stuck to the auxiliary source, only able to change it back if the sound comes back.
Might be looking at this from the wrong perspective, but does this point to a software issue? Would a "fresh" install of the latest software version resolve this?
Would also love some of your thoughts on this.
Thank you!!

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
Sounds like you have something else going on as if you are getting a power loss / power spike when doing those actions, you have a bad wiring connection, a problem with the CAN network or earthing problem somewhere.
I would first check to make sure you have not got any aftermarket equipment or devices wires into the vehicle electrics... that is always the first place to start as if they are not CAN compatible they can cause problems with vehicle systems. Then I would start troubleshooting wiring starting where you found all the issues with the 'mangled wiring'. Again if there is interference on CAN wiring it can show a problem or interference in other connected systems, which is what the CAN networks are there for - to cut down on physical wiring by sending data signals to each system along the same network.

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
That makes total sense, I will double-check to see if there is any aftermarket equipment, but I am pretty sure that there isn't any, as I haven't noticed that.
Mangled wires were found within the foldable display, after disassembling it. All of those have been replaced, and I've checked the quad lock connector and its wires for any damage, but couldn't find any.
Is there a way to pinpoint any CAN issues or potential earthing problems? I imagine a lot of things could be causing that, would help me if I can narrow down the troubleshooting.

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
Not without physical testing. If you have Diagbox, you can run a Global Test to see if there is anything being reported back as a fault code and then post that up here with your VIN.

Re: MyWay/Rneg issues
I don't have Diagbox sadly, I will see if I can acquire or borrow one, but chances are slim for that. I will try and see if there is anything aftermarket in the car that I might've missed.
