RD4 - radio tuner

Post by Crazy88 »

Hi folks,

I'm posting here in hope one of you very kind fellow forumites may be able to offer some assistance with an issue I am facing with the radio tuner on my Peugeot 308 RD4 unit please?

The original factory fitted RD4 unit (single CD, single tuner) appeared to have developed a fault with the tuner a few weeks back where there was no audio from the tuned radio station, playing CD's continued to work perfectly with no audio or display issues.

In my naivety, I thought it would be a good idea to 'upgrade' to a used RD4 unit with MP3 which I sourced locally and perhaps wrongly assumed, as it was labelled on the side as a Siemens VDO RD5 that it would be compatible and didn't realise until after I got home it was a twin tuner version with two antenna sockets on the back.

Having installed the replacement MP3 RD4 and using another thread on this forum as guidance to configure the various options using PP2000, and connecting the single antenna lead into the corresponding white/cream coloured socket at the rear of the RD4 unit, the problem which I am now finding is that although the radio will produce some audio, the 'seek' tuning option fails to pick up any radio stations on any band (FM/AM) and will continue to infinitely scan the whole band and never find a station. Manually tuning the radio frequency to a known station appears to work ok.

I've included a couple of snaps of the configuration options from PP2000 in hope it might help with solving this mystery.

Dual tuner systems have twin FM tuners, so one is always scanning ahead to ensure that when there is a stronger source signal detected, it switches over. This is why it has a different aerial setup than mono tuner displays and why it won't work correctly on your system with one aerial.

You should also be aware that the multifunction screen on the RD45 is also different having its own ECU and these are directly linked to the Head Units. So expect issues if you are mixing systems and screens.

Thanks for your assistance Marc and the helpful response, I had ruled out the RD45 upgrade as an option as I have the fixed MFD in the 308 (although if there are other options I should look into I'd be happy to hear about them)

Do you have any similarly helpful advice on how I could go about troubleshooting the no audio radio issue on my original RD4 (before it goes in the bin), does the configuration options from the attached snap above appear as it should be?

There's quite a few other options not showing in your picture that may need looking at, as you only have the input / output screen visible.. For this specific section the Aerial No 2 configuration is incorrect. Aerial No 2 must be set to 'Passive Aerial' for units with single tuners.

Thanks again, I can try that and give it another whirl with the factory RD4 unit, are you able to provide me with any further guidance as to which other config options screens I should be looking at whilst I've got the laptop and lead hooked up and I can grab some more snaps whilst I'm there?

To do that I'd need your VIN (automasked on post submission), then a screenshot of each of the pages of the RD4 configuration, which will be easier for me to check through and tell you what isn't right than the other way round.

Thanks again for all your help, I'll give it a go with the settings you've suggested here and let you how I get on.
