Hi guys,
My satnav has developed a strange fault. It won't/can't pick up sataliites. As a result the map is useless and the car thinks its in a filed near Daventry!
The bottom of the screen usually lists number of satalites as 9 but is currenlty showing zero. I've tried a BSI reset and I've checked connections from aerial to loom above the head lining in the boot but nothing obvious is wrong. Not ried a lexia yet.
Any ideas are appreciated.

Which satnav? What year is it?

Re: Satnav not picking up satellites
This is the RT4 Forum, so one expects it to be an RT4 Paul and if this is your X7 VIN ending 848 Gino, then confirmed.
There are several possibilities.
1) The roof aerial has had water ingress that has corroded the internal connections
2) The aerial connection at the rear of the RT4 or further up the line has become loose or corroded
3) The GPS Tuner / Receiver is faulty inside the RT4
The first thing you need to determine is if it is the aerial or the RT4.

- Get yourself a cheap GPS aerial with fakra connection off ebay or similar for about a £10.
- Replace the GPS antenna at the back of the unit with this and place the aerial in a prominent place.
- Go for a drive - essential! You can't remain stationary as the GPS needs to geolocate itself by locking onto several satellites and it can't do this when the vehicle is not moving. It typically needs 10 minutes to do this.

I know that but sometimes items are misposted and the information to confirm, or otherwise, isn't in the standard member My Cars box.GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑25 May 2022, 11:18 This is the RT4 Forum, so one expects it to be an RT4 Paul ...
