My car is a 97 Xantia 2.0l 16v.
My ABS light remains on after start up. Does anyone have any idea on a source of diagrams for the Xantia ABS? I am hoping that it is not the ECU as this is v - expensive.
Any ideas as to how to diagnose and proceed would be appreciated.

Phil,
Here's a good site to look at for some ideas.
It relates to the BX but goes thru the troubleshooting procedure and in any case I think you'll find that the ABS on the BX and Xantia are very similar.

AlanS just beat me to sending you David Woollards site address! Another point is that my wife had a similar problem and we took the car to our local Cit specialist (not main dealer) and he plugged in his computer thing and diagnosed a failed (front wheel)sensor in about 1 minute at no charge. Given that he saved me hours of fiddling about we also got him to replace the sensor - cost about £70 parts and labour which we didn't think was too bad.Front sensors are apparently the most frequent thing to go. Our bloke said that contrary to rumour the ECU is very long lived and reliable and he had replaced only a couple since Xantias came out.Good luck

Thanks guys, I will let you know what I discover. I did some checking earlier today and found that one of the rear sensors had already been replaced as they had just spliced the wires together in the wheel arch. Must say that I was surprised that one had been changed as I bought the car with only 10000 on the clock. It has covered only 43000 now.

I can see why they spliced the wires together. It's very hard to get to some of the connectors. The rear ones are above the sub-frame and not visable! The front ones are just about visable. If you are into testing with a meter I can let you have the pin connections for the four wheel sensors at the ECU.
David,
Thanks for yr offer of ECU pin nos etc. If you could send them they would be helpful. I did manage to get some from info that I was given yesterday, but it would be useful to check against yr info as to whether Xantia is same as BX.
Have checked what I believe are wheel sensor pins and get an average of 1072 ohms for 3 and a much higher reading for the last one. Assuming that these are the correct pins then I may have a front sensor down. It would be nice to have the assurance that I am cheching the correct pins.
Do you have any idea why they seem to use a switch in the brake light circuit to provide power to the ECU?
