Double Pillar Boxes
With the quest to picture all the AA boxes almost at an end I wondered if a suitable replacement collection may be "Double Slotted Pillar Boxes". There are 128 images on Alamy so plenty of targets out there, how many ORIGINAL ie OWN WORK photos of them can we compile? To start the ball rolling here's the offering from Dawlish which does make you wonder "Which came first?"
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

The quest is eternal Mick, why.....because no one can be bothered to make a simple trip to Jersey with camera in hand and take an original photo of the ever to remain unclaimed boxmickthemaverick wrote: ↑20 Jan 2020, 10:37 With the quest to picture all the AA boxes almost at an end.....
...and of course those who havent visited their own personal 19 can continue to contribute.
Now I do like a bit of interesting street furniture so if I get the chance I will chip in. A brief foray into the unusual post-box did bring me into contact with the DMC, which it appears if the T-Shirt is to be believed, I have surreptitiously joined without realising it

Not a question of being bothered, more to do with economic constraints in my case!! However there is still time.......

I hadn't picked up on that, (I wonder how many I will see on my meander?), which will obviously keep the quest alive as long as new people are joining!!

Then I guess I have too on that basis!!

Not a double but a typical village post box in Hertfordshire:

Re: Double Pillar Boxes
More a pair than a double Mick
.....one thing I like to do with postboxes is to check out the makers name cast into the bottom of the box, and then look it up in graces guide.
The one on the right bearing in mind it is a VR from when Victoria was on the throne was made by Smith and Hawkes of Birmingham.
Doesnt quite have the kudos of the Lion Foundry Kirkintilloch, which spread its wings far and wide including the railway station at buenos aires.

I have checked the maker on the Letty Green box above and it is W.T.Allen & Co Ltd London, but I know nothing of Graces?

Mick Hertfordshire is home to a couple at least of exciting postboxesmickthemaverick wrote: ↑05 Feb 2020, 11:38 Not a double but a typical village post box in Hertfordshire:
A fleeting glance and you may misread the cypher as that of our current Queen Elizabeth II ie EIIR.
But Hertfordshire has a couple of boxes which have the cypher of EVIIIR ie Edward VIII....bit of a rarity.

Looks like I have a triple quest to chase down but I'm off to Mallorca again on Saturday and leaving my C5 for an eolys top up and service while I'm away so not sure when I'll track them down, however St Albans and Abbotts Langley are possibilities!!

Re: Double Pillar Boxes
My local postbox (to my place of work) was a double one - but, for some reason it (& the nearby franked mail only box) had to go when London Bridge station was destroyed (sorry, re-modelled). Odd, because it was on the opposite side of the road.
