Adding fuel additives, anti misfuel device?
Does anyone know how you open this little flap on the opening to the filler. Looking to put some Redex in the tank but can't for the life of me open it with the end of the bottle!
It's on a DS3 1.6 Blue HDi if that helps?

Why not just pre-mix the Redex with a gallon of diesel, then fill up?

Re: Adding fuel additives, anti misfuel device?
I think it's designed for the very reason not to allow additives and other stuff to be put into the tank - as they are NOT recommended by PSA (upsetting additive levels and the like), but obviously in the main to prevent misfuelling.
To ensure optimum operation of the particle filter, CITROËN recommends the use of......... or any other oil meeting the PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN B71 2312 or B71 2290 standard.
The use of additives such as cleaners or metalisers is prohibited.

Because the Jerry can nozzle doesn't open it either
That's very odd, it was Citroen who recommended me an additive in the first place when it was serviced 2 days ago. Tried to sell me a bottle of Redex for £25 (the exact same stuff you can buy for a fiver at ASDA!)GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑04 Jan 2019, 17:25 I think it's designed for the very reason not to allow additives and other stuff to be put into the tank - as they are NOT recommended by PSA (upsetting additive levels and the like), but obviously in the main to prevent misfuelling.

Perhaps he was a few training courses short there then!
But using premium fuels (although they may cost a few pence a litre more) will provide long term benefits and preclude the need for additional fuel system cleaners. Gulf Super Diesel and Shell V Power for example - even if you fill up every third of fourth tank with some premium will help keep things in order without using a concentrate like that.

Ahh that's why, that extract you posted is regarding oil additives as opposed to fuel additives

Yes, sorry I was mixing myself up and will be booking myself into the training courses now!
But on the fuel side it should help keep things running smoothly treating her to a tank of premium every now and then.

Re: Adding fuel additives, anti misfuel device?
If you want to add a good diesel fuel additive (Wynn's Diesel Fuel Treatment and Miller's Diesel Power Plus, and one or two other identical ones, actually work), just pour in the recommended amount (usually 1:1000 dosage for routine use) when refuelling, and gently flush in with the pump nozzle. Alternatively, use the pump nozzle to open the widget, and pour in the additive around it.

Re: Adding fuel additives, anti misfuel device?
To answer your specific question about the flap, it needs a nozzle of the correct (diesel pump) size to release it. The flap isn't a complete seal and the handbook says that you can add fuel from a can slowly; indeed I have done this many times. So, just pour it in slowly.

Re: Adding fuel additives, anti misfuel device?
Dont know if PSA cars have this but on Fords with anti misfuel devices there is a special funnel in the tool kit that you can use to bypass the misfuel device. Meant to be there for if you need to fill with a jerry can

Re: Adding fuel additives, anti misfuel device?
I thought that it was diesel nozzles that were larger, to prevent them from fuelling petrol cars.
So how would that widget stop the HDi from being wrongly filled?
Could it be an anti-splash-back device, for enthusiastic filling?

Re: Adding fuel additives, anti misfuel device?
It can't actually stop you if you're determined to put petrol in your derv car.
It'll stop you pushing the nozzle in all the way and that's supposed to wake you up and realise it's the wrong fuel you've chosen. But, of course, you could then trickle the petrol in if you wanted.

Re: Adding fuel additives, anti misfuel device?
Ford have them on their petrols and diesel models, unless the correct sized nozzle is used it wont open the flap, you would need to be very determined to put the wrong fuel in this system. Hence the reason they have the bypass funnels in the toolkit as you wouldn’t even be able to fill it with a can if you ran out of fuel

Re: Adding fuel additives, anti misfuel device?
Maybe on Ford models but Peugeot and Citroen do not need a special funnel. It would make life easier perhaps but not a necessity.wheeler wrote: ↑05 Jan 2019, 12:03 Ford have them on their petrols and diesel models, unless the correct sized nozzle is used it wont open the flap, you would need to be very determined to put the wrong fuel in this system.
