Citroen Classic Challenge - 1st-11th June 2017!
Dear All,
I have signed up for this event after the amazing trip in 2015 and some of you may have seen my Club XM Forum blog! http://www.club-xm.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... =challenge
The route this year is through the north-east of France to the Alps and touching the Mediterranean at either Nice or Biarritz, with around 3,000 miles to be covered. As for 2015, the organizer is the very excellent Phil Chidlow, who does a fantastic job on planning the routes, which includes the location of suitable campsites and hotels. There will also be an opportunity to visit a couple of brilliant looking museums and hopefully to call in at the Lyon Expo where the XM was launched on 23rd May 1989.
On this occasion I plan to take my 1989 lhd S1 V6 Exclusive, the 'Poland car', which seems an appropriate choice, given this XM's early service history in France and possible attendance at the 1989 launch event. I am now actively looking for a travel companion willing to share the experience with the driving and petrol and ferry costs, while I expect the overall expenditure might be around £1,200. My intention is to economize by camping and self-catering, rather than hotellling and eating out, although the latter choices are obviously also available.
I would be very pleased to receive any enquiries and further details can be supplied, including a really impressive and seductive itinerary prepared by Phil. A firm commitment will be required in the relatively near future before ferry charges increase.
With regards,
Matthew T.

Annoyingly it looks like the event only has a facebook page, not a normal website?

Shame it's in France and not the UK
Completely rules it out for me I'm afraid...

To be honest Jim it wouldn't be anywhere as interesting if it was England, some of the scenery is breathtaking plus you see old battered French tin which have long since disappeared over here.

I hear exactly what you are saying Tim and you're right... I'd actually love to but I am unable to travel overseas these days so I must now do all of my touring within the borders of the UK...

If it wasn't for the claustrophobia I would suggest cycling through the service tunnel of the Euro Tunnel.

I just can't go overseas any more James. It's just far too stressful and not worth it.
I tried last year and spectacularly failed. I'm not trying again under any circumstances.

I'm taking part in the trip this year as well
I won't be in an XM though, I've thought about taking my CX but I don't think I'm brave enough so I'm taking my V6 Activa for a good blast! Really looking forward to it now, it should be a great trip
David.

Anyone who is doing this tour is welcome to drop in to see me on the Friday (the day starting in Bourg-en-Bresse), as you will be going right past our door. I am happy to go to a local brasserie for lunch before you head off to the chateau at Savigny.
PM me for details.
