You may notice that like buttons have appeared at the top right hand side of forum posts, and there is an extra summary box appearing at the top of the index page and forum pages.addo wrote:Still no "Like" button! I'm outraged that we are expected to articulate our impressions, rather than just click an icon...
Following a successful roll-out on BXC, I have installed a new extension (called Post Love) to the forum software, which allows uses to Like other users posts, similar to like on Facebook and other social media.
Likes of individual posts are tallied, causing the most-liked posts to appear in the summary lists at the top of index and forum pages.
How to "Like" a post: Just click on the button with the heart symbol at the top right hand corner of the post. You can't "like" your own posts.
If the heart icon in the button is just a red outline, then you have already "liked" this one, and clicking it again will "un-like" it. This means that you can only vote once for each post.
To the left of the button is the number of times that this post has already been liked, if you hover your mouse over the number, you will see which users have liked the post.
In the user profile panel on the left hand side of the topic page, the total number of likes received by the user (for all posts) is displayed.
If you go to a users profile page (e.g. by clicking on their user name where it is shown as a link), then you will see a link "Show list with all like actions" at the bottom of the user statistics section. This link will take you to the details of all recent likes of that user's posts.
The summary boxes on the Index and Forum pages contains lists of the most liked posts of the day, week and forever. The period relates to when the post was liked, not when the post was made, so if you like a post from last week (or last year) it will show up in the summary for today (but only for one day...).
The number of posts shown in each list is configurable, I will be fine tuning the numbers over the first few weeks of operation.
The contents of the summary boxes are only updated every 30 seconds, so you may need to wait to see the results of your like.
If you don't want to see this feature, you can disable the display of the buttons and the summary boxes:
To hide the feature on the Index page, Forum Pages and Topic Pages:
- Go to your "User Control Panel" page
- Select the "Profile" tab (you may need to click the unnamed tab to the right of the "Overview" tab)
- Check the "Postlove Hide:" checkbox at the bottom of the page
- Check that you have filled in the "Location" field and "My Cars" fields
- Submit the page
- Go to your "User Control Panel" page
- Select the "Board Preferences" tab
- Then "Edit Notification Options"
- Un-check both boxes on the "Liked Posts" line
- Submit the page
