Thanks for the quick response.

Please, be a smart ass if it helps. :)

No, I didn't disconnect the battery.

I checked the fuse on the back of the unit and the one in position F8 in the glove box. Any others that are likely candidates or should I just check them all? Nothing else seems to have failed.

The head unit has spent the day being bench checked, I don't have a Lexia anyway. It has now gone away for a more thorough investigation.

Thanks for the other info gives me something to look at.

And thanks for the ebay link, have you dealt with this seller before? Not that it matters, I ordered one from him already figuring I can sell it on for no/minimal loss if I don't need it. And yes, I checked the Citroen price.

I've purchased my RT6 unit + screen from that seller, I can vouch for him being very helpful (communication is a bit difficult, he only writes in polish, but Google Translate is very useful), we've exchanged maybe 50+ emails during my RT6 adventure ...

Seems the relevant fuses are all right ... so, if I understood correctly, it's not just the screen not having any image, but there is no sound to the speakers as well? If you tried pressing the eject button, did any mechanical sound get produced? I'm just trying to figure out if the unit is dead, or something else is not working as it should ... definitely, Lexia would be of big help here, you could see if the RNEG as a computer would show up during the scan, giving you a big clue to its working/non-working condition, but, of course, not everyone has access to one ... I'll try to think about more possible causes/solutions, though I'm a bit limited now, since it was quite a while ago since I last had (and used) a RNEG unit

The connects2 box I was using has wires on 1,2,3,4,7,8 and 10

1 and 3 look to be power

It is intended for the C5 III Siemens/Blaupunkt headset not the RNEG head unit. The official USB box works with all the headsets though (I think) so the connections aught to be the same. :?:

All I get when powering it up is the screen goes a slightly lighter shade which kind of rolls down and repeats this as long as it has power. You can hear the CD spinning but no sound from the speakers.

Tried pressing eject, holding the power button in for 10 seconds, pressing setup (and probably all the other buttons too).

I won't have hold of it for a few days so not much I can do. The guy who was testing it says he has reproduced the fault so I'm hoping that rules out me having blown anything else up.

The pins on the RNEG, from the wiring diagram, regarding the 12V NR (black) CD connector are:

1 - unit ground wire
2 - CAN LOW changer (-)
4 - CD right audio
7 - CAN HIGH changer (+)
8 - audio ground
10 - CD left audio

the labels are my approximate translation from Croatian into English, but I hope you get the picture.

Taking into consideration that all the wires/connectors have been connected properly (mostly the quadlock & the LDVS cable), it seems you have a "dead" unit ... how dead, it depends ... maybe it's just stuck in the boot loop, sometimes this can be fixed with the firmware upgrade (insert the CD with the FW and let it rip) ... there are some hard methods, by opening the case (re-soldering of certain components) ... or just replacing with another RNEG unit ... can't tell you anything more exact, I would be fairly sure with the diagnosis, if I had Lexia data returned from the car, regarding the nav unit

Hopefully the specialists I've left the head unit with know what they are doing, if they can't fix it then I might have a play around, it has an MP3 CD in the drive, it could be something as stupid as it is trying to load the firmware. You can hear it spin up and down continually as if it is looking for something it can't find.

Like I say, I've ordered a unit so I have another plan A.

Do let us know the fix, it might help other members in the future ... what you've said about the CD being left in there is one of the reasons I never use CDs on my RNEG (when I had it), and on the current RT6 ... if it gets stuck in an infinite loop, there is no easy way to pull the CD out, without dismantling the device altogether (and the total CD MP3 capacity is far to small for my needs) ... once you get the unit, I'd suggest going somewhere where they have Lexia/DiagBox, since you don't know which options are activated/deactivated on it (i.e. your car has F+R parking sensors, the other car where the RNEG comes from didn't, unless configured/telecoded properly, you won't get the parking sensors displayed once the unit is fitted in your car ... or vice versa regarding the options) ... to put it short, you must configure it to match your car's specs (and VIN of course), so this is not a simple plug & play swap operation

The contacted the seller and he has coded it with the VIN, no parking sensors and no tire pressure sensors (as my car does not have either), hopefully that should be enough to plug it in and go (fingers crossed). Should be with me early next week then the wife might start talking to me again.

I'll let you know how the repair goes, they did say it would be tomorrow at the earliest and that was just for a diagnosis/quote.

I think the big issue is why it all happened (it would be good for understanding the root cause):

- due to using a box that's not meant for the car/nav unit
- due to not disconnecting the battery
- due to the RNEG just deciding to take a break, coincidentally with your attempt
- due to I don't have another useable idea at this time
then the wife might start talking to me again
I don't see your problem, you can finally have some peace & quiet during your drives ... sound of silence, by Simon & Garfunkel ... :D

Just a slight update, regarding my current setup, I must say that I'm very happy with the reversing camera (no guide lines at this time ... yet) ... very helpful thing, since I found out that you don't get great visibility while reversing (maybe if I had auto dipping mirrors, which I don't ... sadly) ... and with the Tourer being as long as it is, any extra help in visibility is highly appreciated ... costs a lot, but hey ... it works ... :)

The new head unit finally arrived (it's a long way by road), disconnected battery, plugged it in, reconnected battery, fired it up and success.

Just one thing threw me, I seem to have a new mode.

Image

Didn't have this before and in the few minutes I had to play with it I couldn't get to the other two tabs.

Not a problem though, new features are always good.

The original unit is still being looked at, last update was they ordered some parts to see if they could get it working.

I'm not even going to try the iPod connector. MP3 CDs will have to do for local trips and I'll use the AUX in for longer (family runs).

Thanks for all the help and I'll let you know if I ever hear anything about the original unit.

The trip details page can be activated on the RNEG, I never did it on mine ... good to see you're back with picture and sound once again in the car

That should be in the nav unit (whichever it is) details, has nothing to do with the BSI actually

Shoot me, can't remember ... it's been a long time since I had the RNEG at my disposal ... I'll try to find it on some of the other forums I frequented
