Today I have mostly spent the morning trying to make the rev gauge and turbo work on my Xantia.
So far I have found that the waste gate actuator seems to have no effect open or closed.
I have removed the c clip, unclipped the arm and adjusted the actuator manually.
Whatever the setting no boost.
I can't find any sign of hoses off or leaks.
I suspect the turbo is seized as the car did only 800 miles last year.
Luckily I have a scrap 306 with a decent T2 turbo.
I'll be probably spending the afternoon swapping it to the Xantia.
As for the rev gauge I've found an unclipped wire.
No sign of it's other end so will be hitting the books and here later with some pictures for clues.
Not totally sure it'll be the cause either, but I'd like to plug it in before I buy a new sensor.

Re: Rev Counter and Turbo
Rev counter runs off a sensor thats bolted into the side of the block on the back of the engine just above the drivers drive shaft where it comes out the differential.. its got a which clamp with a 10mm bolt on it.. the bolt doesnt need removing just undoing a few turns and twist out .. useually the end of the sensor gets crap on the end and a clean up and refit sometimes sorts it out..
access is from under the engine front. . So get the car up on ramps and lie under the car..

Re: Rev Counter and Turbo
Well I got as far as turbo off the 306.
It's dark and wet now so dinner time.
Any ideas where this goes to?
I want to get it plugged in before I play with the sensor.

Re: Rev Counter and Turbo
Is there a spare plug behind the fuel filter? The brown connector two pin is useually the plug for the Cooling Fan HIGH Speed activation...

Re: Rev Counter and Turbo
Just had a quick look, found a plugged in green one and black one both looking happy.citroenxm wrote:Is there a spare plug behind the fuel filter? The brown connector two pin is useually the plug for the Cooling Fan HIGH Speed activation...
No spare holes.
Will look properly in daylight though, sure something will appear.
I have a feeling it may be the reversing light switch plug, it reaches about the right distance to where the switch should be and the lights don't work.
Bulbs and both fuses are fine.
Re: Rev Counter and Turbo
Just about to get back to it.
Nice amount of rain going on.
Going to start at the rev sensor, I think the 306 has the same one so I'll change them over if no joy.
Won't check the reversing lights just yet, I want a look where the wires go through the boot.
With all the rain the car will get soaked inside so I'll save that for later.
That brown plug reaches where the reversing switch is though so may be the answer.
Got a thermostat arriving tomorrow, current one leaks and doesn't appear to open.
Also the matrix is leaky so some stop leak and brake pads all round.
I will do the matrix, but thats a summer job for me as I have no garage.
Might get the rears done today, fronts will be next tomorrow with the spheres and the hydraflush.
Sounds horrendous, but as I'm getting to know the car it's decent enough.
It's just been sat for a while and in need of a bit of love before it's driven again.

Re: Rev Counter and Turbo
Rev counter sorted.
Bit erratic, but I think the sensor wants moving a bit further in.
The old one had been put in to far and ground the end down.
Seem to be getting a bit of turbo boost now too.
Taking the one off the 306 was a pain so I just chanced it and hit the Xantia one with a hammer a littler bit.
One cloud of black smoke later and it's surprisingly quick.

Taxed and insured now!
New thermostat and seal installed so I can drive without leaking coolant.
4 days work to go then new brakes and rear spheres.
Rev counter still needs adjusting, got fed up of being cold and wet so can wait.
Really enjoying being back in a Xantia, didn't see it happening at all.
