New Saxo owner - 2003 VTR Race Car

Post by LehaneRacing »

Hi. I've just bought a 2003 Saxo VTR full race car. It's an ex Stock Hatch car & will be raced at Brands, Silverstone, Snetterton etc., over the next few years, in the BARC TinTops series.
I've been racing a MK2 Fiesta XR2 for quite a few years, but wanted to upgrade to a newer car...& this is it.
The car was fully rebuilt in 2012. It has not been used at all during 2013.
Roughly it has -
Full bolt in roll cage with strut extensions.
Race tuned VTR engine, 140BHP at the wheels (Kent Cams race camshaft, tuftrided crank, lightened & balanced etc...).
New GAZ adjustable suspension all round
Peugeot sport torsion bars.
In car adjustable brake bias.
Fully re-mappable OMEX 600 series ECU.
Bespoke centre exhaust system.
Light weight foam filled alloy fuel tank.

I'll see how well she goes with me peddling it round on the 24th Nov at Brands Hatch.

I'll be asking a few questions, any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

dont blame you,
i far prefer to see them grass tracking than on tarmac, far more fun, especially when they are racing against full blown grass track minis/metrocities,
and the dershies walk all over them,

but sadly they dont do grass track 2CV cross in the UK anymore

Raced the Saxo at Brands Hatch for the 1st time on the 24th November with Dunlop DZ03G tyres - again never used these before either.
Wet track in quals & did a 1m09s lap. Had a few off-track excursions, but overall felt good.
Softened up the suspension all round & pumped up the tyres to 28psi (hot) for the 1st race. Damp track & did a 1m02s lap. Went really well.
Much wetter track for race 2, upped the pressures to 29psi (hot) & managed a 1m05s lap. Would help if I put enough petrol in so the car didn't nearly die at the end of the race!
Altogether though, I think I'm going to enjoy racing the Saxo, especially when the VTS engine goes in in Feb!
