Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down

Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
I'll sort out people's parts over the next few days hopefully. The rear electro valve will be fun as the wheel carrier is as always rusted on solid so needs cutting away and the lhm pipes will be easier that way!
Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
Thank you to all who came and hope the doughnuts and cookies provided but I have found a bottle of Pepsi Max in the fridge lol!!
To top it off the scrap guy called me back to say he probably won't be able to get a grab truck to pick it up as its out of action. So I'll have to do some thinking, maybe fit some caster wheels to it lol

Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
Well even with a killing back and groggy head I got my new toy out!
£35 for a Ryobi angle grinder with 3 discs although they are wide discs!
I then got the rear electro valve off and back box. Feck me that took a while! Then the rear height corrector and the front one. 2.5hrs of gagging to get them off although about 30mins chopping some wiring loom bits out, must have a good few kilos of cable from the car now!!
Allan's seat harness connectors are out with loads of cable on them as well as the ones for the seat heaters as well so they will be sent up tomorrow to him.
Parts for sale will be updated as well now for the last bits I have.
But is anyone interested in the bonnet that is sent free and just needs a respect?!

Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
Well the scrap man that said he could take it came round and said it was too difficult and due to the way it was he wanted ME to pay HIM £30-50 to take it.
I just said i know scrap is down but they dont charge you to take it so i'll sort it myself!
Think it will be a case of trolley jack on the subframe or old shopping trolley cut up and shoved under the front and then drag it onto a trailer that i'll hire for a day to get Fatherjacks Xantia, now my traders insurance is up and running i can get that one day

Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
Haha the cheeky buggers, do they expect you to deliver the car on a platter to them so they don't have to do any actual work to collect it ?

Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
That happened with me on the last 2 xantiae, I decided to get a 9" angle grinder and pop it round to the local tip and put it in the scrap metal bins. Got a few funny looks but it amused meKP wrote:Well the scrap man that said he could take it came round and said it was too difficult and due to the way it was he wanted ME to pay HIM £30-50 to take it.

A Xantia hatchback cut into 4 pieces fits in the boot of a Xantia estate.

Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
What the best grinder disc thickness to do that as i was thinking i could chop it up into bits and chuck in the C5 hatch and just go across the weigh bridge with it instead and gets it done this week
Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
the thinnest you can find
do yourself a favour, remove the subframes, it'll make it all a lot quicker
If it's going in a hatch I'd cut behind the a pillar and in front of the c pillar, the floor will fold up easily into nothing, the roof will do the same.

Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
Im now thinking i may just get an old trolley from somewhere, chop its top off and stick it under the front if a trolley jack doesnt work as there is still loads of plastic trim inside left and that lovely dash thing
Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
it's a bit heavy for a trolley!
pop the chassis legs off and the roof and you'll lighten it up a lot
They are very easy cuts to make. If you cut the floor out as well it makes the car into bitesize chunks

Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
True but if i can get it out onto the road i can drag it backwards onto a trailer then
Was thinkin the trolley would just mean easier to turn it around and all but probably a trolley jack would be easier

Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
Well fingers crossed i just won a twice used 2.5t hilka trolley jack with extended top for a massive £15
Re: Xantia Mk2 V6 Strip down
Well I spun the car 45' so far and it took me twenty mins bit by bit as I out the front subframe on an old spare wheel with wooden treestump section to act as a primitive bearing and then jacked up the rear iniatly on the support bar under the rear accumulator(bent until it hit the sphere lol!) then pulled it left inch by inch. Then stopped re supported it and checked it all round then did the same again so the rear has moved about 2-3' all in
More to follow tomorrow and then use some boards to drag it off the drive backwards onto a trailer
Well that's the theory anyway!
