Xantia starting problems

Unread post by gavsel »

Hi there.
I have a '96 Xantia 1.8 16v that has developed a starting problem. First thing in the morning it just refuses to start (the only way it will start is with easy start, which i'm not a great fan of!). After it has started, it will start first time for the rest of the day. Somebody told me it could be the tempreture sensor, so i replaced the blue one pin temp' sensor on the thermostat housing, and left it over night. Next morning it started fine. Two days later, it failed to start again. Does anyone know what it could be? There was no problems leading up to this fault. it just refused to start one day. The car only has 28k on the clock, and doesn't miss a beat once it's started.
Any imformation would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Gavin.

Hmm,
what sort of cold start device does the Xantia use ?? You need to find the cold start timer and ensure it's working, if it has a cold start injector, you also need to test this as well. Don't replace anything else until you have verified that exact component is the problem.

I din't think a Xantia petrol would have a cold start timer. Where would it be if it has got one?

Car all sorted now [:D]. Turned out to be the crank sensor, which is a strange one as you'd expect it to fault all the time, rather than just once in the morning! Anyway shouldn't complain.....
