Planned major outage *DONE*

Post by Xaccers »

On the 12th May I will be having BT Infinity installed. It is with a heavy heart that I leave O2 broadband, they've been great with no network outages, and brilliant customer/technical services, especially with how much effort they put into trying to resolve their internal network routing issue which prevents some other O2 customers reaching the forum.

Due to the disruption this will cause, by my current broadband connection going offline and having to set up the new equipment, I'm going to be taking the day off, and taking the site down to upgrade the forum software.

So for most of the day the forum will not be available.

I can thoroughly recommend BT Infinity. I have been running for almost 12 months now with no outage whatsoever. My speed has increased 10 fold and the installer was excellent.

IIRC it's about 2ish, I went for the basic upload speed as I rarely upload anything.

Hmm, that's not so good, on the lower tariff it should be higher than that.

In true BT style, nothing is ever smooth.
They're transferring my phone line on the 10th, or it may be the 11th, the woman who called sounded confused, and the move to Infinity will then be arranged with me on the 11th.

Do you have certainty the O2 broadband signal will still be applied to your line after the provider switch?

Or are we in fact, possibly at "risk" of having to entertain ourselves for a few days in one go? If so, perhaps a workbench or shed tidying How-To that can be printed off in advance, might be in order...

Or are you going to buy an iPhone and download the Virtual Forum Server App? :P

The ADSL connection won't be switched over until they're installing Infinity.
Although this is BT so anything is possible!

Don't worry, if it all goes pear-shaped with Xac and his Infinity we have contingency plans...

It will be slow but the show (as Leo Sayer might have said) will go on. We'll ensure we can all have our fix of the FCF :-D

It why we take backups of the forums on a daily basis...

Any contingency will be a bit slow because it'll be hosted on old-fashioned steam-driven Internet

And not because it would be on a Linux server

What do they say about great minds? :)
Yes, we'll be having a holding page up while the work (eventually) goes on.

Can the holding page have a really tantalising image?

I don't mean like Emmanuelle Béart in the shower, more like a PRV with the timing cover off, or somesuch.
