Good work Xac - I'm sure that everyone will get used to it in time!

Got to say though, the search, which was always flaky, is shocking now! It doesn't seem to want to find any posts newer than about 2006, and if you type in Xantia suspension problems it just reports "Computer says no...." - mind you, there are quite a few threads about that I suppose! #-o

Part of the upgrade requries the search database to be recreated, it's about half way through at the moment, so give it a couple of days, there are over 1/4 million posts it has to read :)

It hasn't finished indexing all the old posts/threads yet - it's a marathon task and the reason the responses are slowed somewhat.

Damn! beaten to it again :(

I guess indexing is done now :) The forum is running a lot faster after being quite painfully slow for most of the day...

Like the new look so well done to all involved.
Surely it cant be just me,
But and there is always a but why is it so slow, will this be addressed at some point.
Before anyone says "clear your cookies" I do this on a regular basis. I have 20mb broadband and it is almost like going back to dial up at the moment.

It's slow while it's busy re-indexing the old posts so that the search works.
So far it's up to post 199,000ish of 273,347 so only a few more days to go.

I thought i was having trouble reading the posts on my Kindle (cough, cough) abroad (Gran Canaria, 33degrees,yes!!) and attributed it to just that cos the K web browser is only b&w. Imagaine my dismay when I loggedin today and it's 'still just black and white' to me. I'm not that happy at its speed either given that i'm on a 50mb broadband connection and its taking an age to load. well noe ... moan over, gues i chose the wrong time to go on holiday eh. Last time i did that i came back to redundancy, geezz!! Can someone explain how this is a step forward to me, c'mon guuys .... it's either grey or either black or either white, spice it up a bit. And, think of us poor pensioners, the text is reeeaaallllyyy awful to read now.
Read the whole thread and most of your questions will have been answered.

Personal opinion only - I think the new skin is much cleaner, clearer and easier to read, a huge improvement and one of the best, probably the best, that I have seen.

I wasn't aware that you could surf with a Kindle - my wife just bought one, is over the moon as she can actually read stuff again (legally blind).
Being able to go online with it might interest her too.

superloopy1 wrote:Steve, I disagree but am obviously in a minority so let's talk Kindle. The ability to surf depends on which Kindle your wife has, there's many, but the ones with 3G capability are able to connect via an experimental black and white browser which works quite well and quite fast
Ideal if you are abroad cos its free. Check what model she has.

Thanks Mike - it isn't the 3G one as she would be most unlikely to need that - or so we thought when she bought it.

how's that now?

No chance of me spending 9 more hours modifying another style only to still have people complain (you know they will) making Danielle feel like a fcf widow.

Best advice I can give anyone, especially those with sight issues, is calibrate your monitor. Too bright or the contrast incorrectly set can make clear text difficult to read.

Have you changed anything or not?

There is absolutely no discernible difference at my end if you have.

Why do the posts have to alternate between white and grey backgrounds, its this element more than anything else which is causing me a problem.

White alone would seem to be a logical option if separate skinning cannot be accommodated ....
I've increased the size of the font by approx 50% see what I mean about people still complaining? ;)

The alternating colours is at the request of members with considerable visual imparement to differenciate between posts, a complaint that I tend to agree with on the old forum style.
