red l.e.d. on xantia sx 1.8

Post by kathbert »

Hi there, I have a small red light on my steering wheel, just below the mute button for the radio. this only lights when I first switch on the ignition for a few seconds, and then goes out. The hand book does'nt mention this light. Does anybody out there know what it's for?

Only a guess, it may have something to do with the Airbag or possibly the alarm. Does the light go out the same time as the Airbag light on the dash?(Diagnostic indicator) Or if it's linked to the alarm, does it flash when you're out of the car and the alarm is set, alternatively if you haven't got a keypad immobiliser, it could be linked to the transponder key, have you tried turning the ignition key whilst the light is still lit?(Status indicator) It may have to extinguish before you can get any response out of the ignition. It could just be a pretty light!!! Anyone else, I've never worked with the Xantia. So like I said, only a guess.

I do'nt seem to have an air bag warning light on my dash panel, and I was wondering if that light does the same job?

Is the red light on the Airbag pack, centre of the wheel and down a bit, it looks like a small clear window, but there's a red light for the period you specified? Or is the light on the plastic surround which covers the control column? Where all the indicator stalk, stereo controls, etc are? If it's the steering wheel/airbag pack light that is for the airbag, you are correct there is no corresponding warning on the dash, Citroen replaced one with the other in newer models. If it is though I'm suprised there is no mention of it in the user manual! It's a critical component, red meaning danger and all, if the light goes out thats good news whatever it's for. It means the check/diagnostic was succesful and there are no problems. When it starts flashing constantly, get your wallet/purse out, and have it checked. Hope this has been of some help

Hi there, the light is on the right hand side of the actual steering wheel, slightly down from dead centre, below the remote control buttons for the radio cassette, beside the air bag pack. And yes it is a small clear plastic window. Glad to hear that, as I did'nt fancy the idea of taking off the steering wheel to check the dash bulb. I can now put my crash helmet and visor away for another while. Cheers.
