Moderators, do you think this should go into the Meets, rallies and get togethers section? If so could you move it across please?

Thanks

Update:
Thus far, I have received only four entry forms. OK, it's the summer and most won't be able to plan that far in advance, but it's not too encouraging. I have had a further dozen express interest, (most saying they will be taking part), but until I get forms and fee (it's only £20) I can't take those as definite.

So, if you can, get the form etc. off to me (even if you have to update team/car details at a later date) so I can commit to producing the sticker sets and route plan/end-of-event activities.

I reckon if we have fewer than 12 teams signed up by a point in time later this year, sadly I might be forced to postpone/cancel the event or ask for a little more from those who have entered. I think it will be prudent to announce a cut-off date for entries.

A massive apology to Ben, Andrew, Mike and the others who have replied recently to my e-mails. BT (once again!!!) have consigned your replies to my Spam folder without notification. I have just turned the damned thing off!

I have now caught up with the kind replies and suggestions.

An emphatic reply is: this event is most certainly happening. I can well understand lack of 100% commitments but the underlying swell of enthusiasm makes me sure it will work out well closer to the time.

I still have to put a lot of effort into the promotion and organisation of the event, so please let me know what the situation is regarding your intentions to participate. It will be hugely appreciated.

Once again, sorry if it seems to have gone quiet. I assure you this is a viable enterprise.

Kind regards

Phil

BUMP!

100 days to go.

At the risk of repeating myself...

Can I ask all interested parties that, if they haven't already, you please sort out your entry if you are able to confirm (as much as reasonable) your intention to take part in the Challenge in May. I need to get all fees and registrations in asap as I need to be able to order and print the sticker sets.

With this in mind, I will only order a few more than the number of paid-up entrants, although the £20 fee will still apply to late comers to be fair to the others. I will make a proportional contribution to Cancer Research UK on late-in fees.

So, here's the deal, chaps...

If you want to participate (and want to sticker up your car for the event), I must have had your fee and entry form by Friday 17th February. If you enter after that date, it'll still cost £20 but a sticker set cannot be guaranteed although I will provide at least one plaque-style sticker for your car..

Should an entrant have to pull out, after paying the fee, a sticker set will still be produced for them - possibly to sell on to late-comers, but that's down to individuals to sort.

Also, those taking part in only a part of the route, but who still want a sticker set or not, the fee's still £20. I have made this decision to be fair to all.

Some - like me - see the expense as being a real concern. Well, I have looked again at the costings and for two, in an relatively economical car, camping each night and eating frugally, using the cheapest available crossing and not taking a room at the end-of-event Hotel venue (but camping nearby), you're talking £740-780 for the whole thing (which is essentially a 8-10 day holiday) including a small contingency for the unexpected; be it speeding fine or a replacement part... Not too bad - that's just over £40 a day each all in.

A few more pics showing what the route through the French and Swiss alps can offer. The Lac is only a short way from the suggested route and if the weather's good might be worth a detour... :)

Approaching Chamonix, a nice little Col:

Hi

NB: This does not apply to those who have paid the fee (so it's FYI only).

As per an earlier e-mail: If you want to participate and want to sticker up your car for the event, I must have had your fee and entry form (or e-mail equivalent) by Friday 17th February. If you enter after that date, it'll still cost £20 but a sticker set cannot be guaranteed although I will try to provide at least one plaque-style sticker for your car..

Should an entrant have to pull out, after paying the fee, a sticker set will still be produced for them - possibly to sell on to late-comers, but that's down to individuals to sort.

Cheers

I have now secured for the event, a relationship with Quest Motor Group - a highly regarded family business who have recently become a Citroën dealership. It is hoped in the future we will see them support various spin offs from this inaugural event and as of now the Challenge will be officially titled The Quest Motor Group Citroën Classic Challenge 2012. They also pledged to support the 30th Anniversary of the Citroën BX stand at the ICCCR and are already talking of another event (in the UK) in 2013 and a re-run of the 2012 Challenge in 2014.

So. Thanks for the support chaps lol.

As it is we have 15 cars taking part. 23-25 people enjoying a driving experience which in all honesty although easily repeatable individually will be pretty unique as an enthusiast's event.

Although it's not too late to join in, I figure the Xantia and post-Xantia Citroën fans don't see themselves as quite ready for 'classic' status yet? (Although you are - it's open to ALL Citroëns). Maybe if we'd left the word 'Classic' out of the event title it might've worked for you? You lily-livered lot! :)

18 days to go. :) Visit the CCC or BXC forums - or indeed the event's Facebook page sometime after the 17th May to see how we all got on. TTFN.

We got on fine. Really exceptional scenery and roads. No Xantias, XMs, Xsaras, AXs, took part but we did have a ZX in the convoy. It did admirably, but the plucky 1974 GS break deserves special recognition. Blimey, do those things go cross-country!

The BXs all survived and performed as well as we knew they would. Wonder how a 22 year old Xantia would cope? We'll have to wait and see one day :)
