New Year, new look? Something different...

Post by andmcit »

Can we not have a minor make over to this site's masthead?

I understand there's a plan in place for a while now to change the php
software and even a demo mode was shown for a while, though this was
a way back.

I was reminded about an alternative I tried in a bored 10 minutes some
time ago when I chanced upon a file made to play about and see if the new
php could sit nicely with a different main masthead banner and thought
why not, chuck it on and see what the current feelings are about it!?

Anyhow, a first draft:

Image

Anything and everything can be changed but sometimes you have to start
somewhere to know then where you want to go!! :P

ps, the variation in width for varied screen sizes could run between the
full black RHS of the main flag graphic and the LHS edge of the x3 marque
logos if that makes sense? :?

Looks pretty but make sure that you have permission to use the PSA / Renault Logo's

Together with a nice new header it would be nice to have an upload files area so that relevant photo's etc could all be in one place rather than spread across the internet with little or no control after they have been posted.

Unfortunately having the ability to upload files is a bad idea, it leaves the forum and it's admin open to greater risk as it's more difficult to moderate.
It also uses server resources, disk space and bandwidth for example.

One thing I really appreciate about fcf is that when you open a topic you see the replies straightaway, without having to scroll down a load of adverts before getting to the topic.

It is a nice touch but if you use Firefox or Google Chrome you won't see any adverts anyway.

That looks really wonderful Andrew! Thank you!!!

On the adverts front, this forum will remain totally free of 'em so long as I'm on the team..

I hate adverts of any sort. Internet ones especially. On TV, on the rare occasions I watch it, I watch the Beeb as I cannot bear the ads on the commercial channels. I may occasionally watch C4 or C5 and tolerate them barely if the program is worth it. That's very rare.

There some good programmes on the commercial channels so what you need is a PVR.

You record the rpogramme and then when you watch it later you speed through the advert breaks. Most PVRs have a jump function or 30s so it takes a matter of seconds to jump, jump, jump through 4 or 5 minutes of adverts. A lot of PVRs will allow you to start watching a programme before it's finished so you can jump into a "hour" long programme 15 minutes in and then finish more-or-less on time.

You only have to do that twice and you've made time for a 30 minute programme you recorded earlier!

PVRs are great, it's one of the main reasons I went for a sky+ box (that and now I have a HD TV and the sky+ HD EPG is much better than the standard one, but that isn't hard).
Series link is great too, just tell it to record the lot and forget about it until you're ready to watch.

I know I'm fairly new on here, but thought that I would add that Andrew's graphic looks really good and would improve the look of the site a lot. I'll also add that I think this site is excellent and you are a friendly bunch. It's nice to be accepted even though I drive a lowly 106, other sites can be quite snobby and the 106 specific sites are full to the brim with boyracers. Good job. 8-)
