Server reboot 26/01/11 after 2300

Post by Xaccers »

I'm going to bounce the server tonight, she's been up for a while and judging by the logs has had nearly 2million visits so far this month! (and approx 75000 hack attempts), so I think deserves a refresh :)

It's had its moments tonight where I couldn't get a link to open and I feel
has gone a bit slow lately. All the Chinese and Nigerians getting busy?

Urgh don't talk to me about nigerians.
One of them has gotten hold of my less public email addresses, so I've had emails from "google", "the EU", "American soldier in Iraq", "Christian single woman" etc all stating I'm owed millions of dollars.
Seriously, how stupid do people have to be to fall for these things?

A lot of actual hacking comes from Russia, and more recently the far east, but that's most likely zombie computers controlled by some script kiddie in California who wishes he was in Twilight

Apparently the American Inland Revenue managed to search me down to
tell me I had been overtaxed and they wanted to reimburse me - that was
jolly nice of them going to all that trouble finding me on my work email...

I haven't set foot in the USA in my life yet, AFAIK... :?

I have Steve. Gave them all my bank details and everything but I'm still
waiting for them to get back to me - must have a bit of a busy backlog.

Such nice people though.

Years back dad had a call from an indian call centre asking for his comments on a recent loan he took out.
Being a cantacerous old git, he told them he never does those surveys and put the phone down.
I asked him "Have you taken out a loan recently?"
"No" came the answer.
"Then wouldn't it have been a good idea to have asked them about it?"
Some people!
