Shouldn't need them at all. The roads are usually clear before mid-May. I would suggest new-ish pads and discs maybe.

Be tempted... it's well worth the effort. The BXs that did the Alps last time rode much better after that work-out!

By the way check out: http://web.me.com/macksy/The_PHILIBUSTE ... lcome.html there's some pics and video.

Oh, and we'll be doing the Jura Mountains too this time: less 'extreme' but apparently some of the best roads anywhere.

Stick me down as a possibility.

It all depends on getting the Activa up to scratch and making sure insurance is in order (being under 25 I miss out on many of the clauses that most have, such as driving abroad and drive other cars)

Being as its two years away I reckon there is a good chance the above two conditions will be met but wouldn't like to say for definite. Long time for circumstances to possibly change.

OK will do. I hope you can make it: an Activa on those roads will be something to behold!

There have been some adjustments to the provisional route. Quite big, although the route's the same length. It will allow people the option of joining from a string of crossing points along the North coast which was something I received some requests for. So, although the start is ostensibly Calais, others can join from Boulogne, Dieppe, La Havre, even Caen.

It's shaping up as an early May affair, with an advisory departure from Calais of the 9th May, (although joining the route from other ports of entry is an option too) arriving in or near Gap, (Alpes de Haute Provence region) for a Citroen Rally (hopefully including French car clubs) on Saturday 12th May. From there it's onwards and (literally) upwards, into the mountains (Alps and Jura Mountains in France and Switzerland), with arrival in Calais 16th May.

I've got prices in for stuff, and have drafted an awards plan.

The entry cost for each team will be £20.

Would those wanting to attend please let me know as soon as you can. I'm operating to a limit of 30 teams, and although the first submission of interest only amounts to a pencilling in (with no fee due!) it is important for me to be able to estimate team numbers.

I have reached certain conclusions about route, timing and structure. So onwards and upwards...

I have a dedicated e-mail address which should be used to raise specific points, acknowledge interest etc. citroenclassic@btopenworld.com so rather than clutter this thread with debate (and there will always be differing views) please do not hesitate to mail me.

The Facebook page should become the main point of reference.

The next post should lay out all the relevant information for those contemplating taking part.

First, the MAP.

This is intended to show roughly where we are going and when. The distances are for approximate guidance only.

Image

WHEN?

The Event will start (for those wishing to team up together for the dash down to Gap) in Calais on the Wednesday 9th May 2012. Some may wish to take a more leisurely cruise down to the secondary start point, Gap.

The main part of the event will start with a day in/around the town of Gap with a Rally, where all the cars/teams can assemble and hopefully (if it goes to plan) meet up with French Citroën/Classic car club/s.

Then, on the morning of Sunday 13th May the teams start off for the Alp crossings. The Col du Galibier is the preferred option, as we missed doing it (except for the Green Tigers) last time.

The event will finish in Calais at a venue yet to be decided on the evening of Wednesday 16th May.

HOW MANY TEAMS?

I want to limit this to 30 teams. I acknowledge this is arbitrary but there are reasons for deciding upon a limit. If support proves massively bigger than I expected, then I reserve the right to increase this a tad, closer to the time.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Each team is self-funded. I will require £20 from each team to cover costs. It is hoped that camping and sleeping in cars will help keep the costs down, but be aware this will cost a few hundred*.

*I'm reckoning all in, with fuel and camping 2/3 of the time, but utilising a free crossing with Tesco vouchers, about £775 for a team in a petrol BX). Less for DERVists. So a team of two in a TZD Turbo might manage £400 a head - not bad value IMHO). And the best bit is: we've got over 18 months to save for it.

And that's it for now. Phil
