Image Sizing

With the current (newer) version of phpBB software running the forum, the advice below is no longer entirely applicable.

The forum will now rescale* oversize pictures to fit in the width of each user's browser window.

If you want your picture narrower than full page width, then you still need to use one of the methods below.

* The rescaling is actually done by the user's browser the forum software users javascript to tell the browser how wide to make it.

Chaps!

When posting images could you please ensure that the pixel width is no greater than 700.
All the photo hosts (Flickr, PhotoBucket, ImageShack etc.) have tools to do this - Photobucket and Imageshack on upload, Flickr on posting.

Images larger than 700px wide break the page frame and force horizontal scrolling which is an annoyance to many and some completely abandon reading a thread like this.

Not everyone has a high resolution widescreen monitor that can cope with larger images, hence the request to limit the size.

If a larger image is necessary to view fine detail then please post a clickable thumbnail image or a link.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

A useful tool is here > http://www.xemico.com/photogadget/freeware.html

I've used this for a couple of years.

The free version is quite sufficient for resizing. I use this a lot as its quicker than firing up a paint package or using online resizers.

Simply right click on the image(s) on your desktop and resize them easily. (See the pictures in the link) , you also have the option to overwrite the original picture or not too.

Just to note, that tool I have only tested on Windows 2000 and XP, although it may work on Vista and Windows 7, but not tried myself.

Nice one Andy. The more tools the better.
I use either The Gimp or Irfanview to resize images on my computers but have the photo hosts set to default to an acceptable size.

Even MSPaint can be used to resize images.

All quite true.

I just find (for myself at least, and hopefully a few others) using that tool is a bit quicker as there's no need to open another program and load the image, you just right click and you are more or less done.
