ZX troubles!

Post by adrianeaton »

For once the BX isn't causing me any grief - largely due to the fact it's been sat in the garage not being used for weeks ;-)
Jane's ZX on the other hand is looking very second hand! Any help with the following much appreciated...
1. Exhaust - the very tail section fell off on the M25 at the weekend, the system seemed to be blowing anyway so was on the list to do. I'm a bit confused about what the correct boxes are having looked online. It's a 1.8 Furio so I'm assuming N22081 is the correct front section but the back section isn't so simple! The tail pipe looks pretty much the same as a Volcane from the back so I suspect the standard 1.8 box (N25080) doesn't have this and that the Volcane box (N25089) is the one I should have. Thanks in advance Jon if you read this!
2. Rear compliant bushes. Was told at the last service that these need doing and was shown one off the car, looked like a rubber block with a threaded bar on either side. Are these a straightforward DIY job to fit or should I leave it for the service guys to fit?
3. Front bumper. If anyone knows where I can get a replacement front bumper in white for a Furio (looks a bit like the Volcane item without any stripe round it) I'd be grateful. The car will be sold in the next few months so I don't want to spend a fortune on a new one so it's either 2nd hand or getting it resprayed. The original is very discoloured and has had a few mm shaved off one corner after an arguement with a bollard in the supermarket car park!!
Thanks all
Adrian

Pleased to hear that the BX is causing no problems (funny how thats happened since you put it in the garage!) :-)
Anyway, in answer to your questions, yes, you need a Volcane rear silencer if the one on your Furio has an Oval tailpipe.
As for the bumper we do keep that as GSF under our ref N81338, its like a Volcane one but with no trim.If finances don't run to a new one, try PCR on 01903 767676. This type of bumper was also fitted to various limited edition ZX's such as Dimension, Elation etc so is really common due to the proliferation of limited edition ZX's that seemd to arrive on a monthly basis in the 90's!!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
For the rear subframe mounts, the ones that you describe sound like the square rearmost mounts, our ref N10162. They are not that hard to change, although it does involve careful removal of the boot carpet so that they can be unbolted from the top.(I was able to carefully peel back the carpet by the tailgate by removing the plastic trim, then get my little hands under the carpet with a rachet when I last did this job!)
The job is usually done by supporting the rear of the car on axle stands, then placing a trolley jack under the rear beam to support its weight as you undo the mounts. Then lower the jack slightly, remove the old mounts, fit the new ones, and raise jack again so that you can tighten the subframe mount nuts.
I think that we have covered this job in more detail on the forum before, if I can find the post I'll repost it.

Cheers Jon
I'll be ordering the bits through my local GSF in Kingston as I won't be passing Reading this week - is it still the case that Citroen stuff is fairly limited stock in the GS bit of GSF?! Hoping if I order it tomorrow morning that it'll be in stock for Saturday. Not sure if I need the whole system or not as I can't identify where it's blowing. The back box is shot anyway and I'm tempted to do the front section at the same time as I'm sure the 2 bits won't want to part company very easily. Is the flange with the cat a bolt on item or is it sleeved? Please let it be bolt on.......
I'm going to jack the car up when I get home tonight and take a look at the exhaust so I'll check out the bushes as well and decide if I can be bothered to change them myself while I've got the back of the car in the air.
the bumper isn't so bad that it warrants a brand new one, so if I can't get a 2nd hand one in the right colour I'll just get this one repaired.
Thanks Jon!

OK,
Kingston have the N25089 silencer in stock, but they are not showing any subframe mounts at the moment. I'm assuming that the ZX 1.8 has a cat, so the inter pipe will be N22081, Kingston not showing stock.
Inter pipe mounts to rear box via flange fitting, they come apart easy once clamp (2 halves type) removed!!! At the cat end it unfortunately pokes inside the cat sleeve style for a couple of inches, but theres a flange joint too. They usually come out OK.
