Picasso Tyre Wear
Front drivers side tyre is worn on inside and outside edges, I have knocking noises which must be the drop links but I didn't think they caused odd tyre wear?
Thanks.
Thanks.

The bottom ball joint or suspension arm have to be the prime suspects for me. Try using a pry bar between the suspension arm and hub then lever the bar to check for movement in the balljoint, you may need to separate the joint to get an accurate assessment of wear. Also examine the rubber inner bushes for deterioration.

Hi,
Check your track rod end ball joint for play on the side that is suffering tyre wear.
If the play is excessive it could cause the wheel on that side to go outside the tracking limits both ways, one way when accelerating and the other when braking, causing wear on both sides.
The ball joint will also knock quite a lot !

I'm working along the lines that an under inflated tyre won't be causing a knocking noise, well not in my experience a knocking noise and unusual tyre wear is normally down to wear in one of the hub locating points as mentioned in my earlier post or the track rod end balljoint by John above. The only other option is an underinflated tyre AND a worn joint such as a droplink.

yes but Gav thinks the knocking is drop links, and these certailly cant cause tyre wear,
and if it were a track rod end it would definetly cause exactly the same wear on the other front tyre (one edge or the other ) dependant on towing in or out,
and i dont feel wear on both edges to be normal tyre wear, because if all were well the tyre should wear evenly across the hole tread face

Its only knocking when I go over speed humps or broken roads. On closer inspection the wear is worse on the inside edge. Could this be caused by my straddling the speed cushions that I have to negotiate each day, if I am having more of said drivers side tyre on the cushion than the passenger tyre?
