Am about to locate a fault in the ABS of my Car 1993 1.9TD SX. I know the relevant pins in the Multi plug, connecting to the ABS ECU, for the roadwheel sensors. Can any one tell me the function of the rest of the pins ? I am sure they must be earthing, 12 v feed etc.
For what its worth my money is on a faulty sensor or poor earth somewhere

Hi when I was fault finding on my ABS system(xantia 1.9 TD SX 1993)
I contacted citroen uk and they sent me a copy of the circuit diagrams
showing sensors and other connections.
My fault ended up being a ECU fault, caused by a diagnostics unit,which damaged the voltage regulator internally.
Hope this is of help.

Here's a copy of the ABS system for the XM, unfortuanately there doesn't seen to be one for the Xantia on that site, but I can't think that Citroen would use two entirely different systems for cars built at the same time (??? !!).

Your supposition was correct Citroen do appear to have used a different system,wiring at least !

Attempted to replace the sensor this afternoon but it will not budge. Is there a way of freeing it without removing the rear disc and tapping out the sensor ?

If you scroll down to the second last photo on this link you'll find a shot of a BX 16V ABS sensor.
If it's the same as that, it's held in by a 10mm (I think from memory) bolt that can be a bit rusted in. The actual mounting is a hole that the black part is located in and it can tend to get rusty and "grow" on to the sensor. I soaked in WD40 and then a couple of drops of oil, grabbed with a spanner & carefully wriggled to & fro until it came loose at which time it just slid out. Be careful as they have a habit of snapping if seixed in really hard; worse case scenario is that the mounting snaps! You'll notice that I put a coating of grease on mine when I reinstalled them to avoid a repeat somewhere down the track.

The securing bolt came out quite easily and I could manage to rotate the sensor slightly after copius use of penetrating fluid but could get no movement to and fro to remove the sensor. Maybe I will let the fluid work its magic for a day or so but I have a deadline as the MOT renewal date looms !
Incidentally in the picture you referred me to the sensors look slightly differnt the magnet is not completely enclosed in a plastic covering. This is probably only cosmetic
