Sometimes on starting from warm the management light stays on and the engine idles roughly and feelsw down on power after
about 1/2 mile driving the light goes off and the car drives normally. The coil pack
was replaced recently to cure running on two
cylinders also a new idle control valve has
been fitted recently. Any help or ideas most welcome.

Hi
If I remember correctly the engine management light comes on when a fault has occured with one of the many sensors associated with the engine such as anti pinking sensors, air temp, pressure etc. Under such conditions the management system will revert to preset parameters which are basically 'safe' settings i.e. you can drive around but probably with less power. When the fault clears the light goes out and you cant easily find out what the problem is without a diagnostics system to download the error codes from the management system. (Gunsons do a cheap device for downloading codes).
I used to have this on my XM V6 but it was traced to corroded contacts on connectors which is often the answer to most problems
