Xantia - Unknown dash light

Post by madpenguin »

Hi all,
I've just got hold of a '95 M reg 1.9TD Xantia and it has a few niggles.
Firstly, the temp gauge isn't working. The car runs fine and all heats up ok.
Secondly, there is a yellow warning light on the dash directly above the handbrake light that isn't shown in the manual.
Finally, the speedo is dead. Is it cable or electronic?
Hope you can help.
Many thanks

What's the graphic on the light, i.e (o), (p) etc.
My TD has electronic speedo, the speed sensor is on the diff housing, not sure if they are all this way or if some are cable driven.

That'll be the 'temperature gauge and speedo fault' warning light then! Probably.

Dave,
Thanks for your help. As you correctly said in your email, it is the water in fuel light. Apparently, this light is only on the early models.

I have the same problem on '93 L reg 1.9TD Xantia : "there is a yellow warning light on the dash directly above the handbrake light that isn't shown in the manual"
Excuse me for my ignorance, this is a first Citroen and I just bought it a few days ago, but now that I know that it is the "water in fuel light", any suggestions what should I do about it.

Hi Sean - In an ideal world the 'water in fuel light' should only come on when water is present in the fuel filter bowl. Trouble is they malfunction. The fuel filter should be checked for water at six monthly, or 5000 mile intervals. Having said that, I have never found water there, which is probably why they gave up fitting the warning device.

Had a 306TD in the garage the other day, with Fuel Water light lit,
Drained , new filter & still light showed. Disconnected the sensor lead & cleaned the terminals, reconnected & the light went out. So concluded dirty contacts malfunction
