1996 Xantia 1.9TD Estate For Sale

Post by BalloonFish »

After nearly eight years the time has come to find a new home for my Xantia.

1996 (P-reg) Series 1 Xantia SX, 1.9TD Estate, manual transmission.

175,000 miles.

Used as my daily car since purchased in March 2016. It has been extremely reliable in that time but changing circumstances mean I need to start using something more modern, and the Xantia has been throwing up some minor but irritating 'old car' niggles - a fuel gauge that registers only some of the time, a radio that doesn't like the cold and an air conditioning system that works when it fancies it.

It has just received new MoT, so it's good until December 2024. It needed a small amount of welding on the o/side rear sill/C-pillar area. This area on both sides had been patched before I bought the car.

Drivetrain is in top condition. Engine starts instantly and cleanly, runs and pulls nicely, does about 45mpg day in day out. Timing belt and aux belt/tensioner were renewed approx. 1500 miles ago, and the oil/filter was changed at the same time.

Heater matrix was replaced (original was leaking into the air ducts) by the Chevronic Centre in 2018.

Suspension spheres were regassed, the hydraulic pump replaced (original had a slight weep) and the LHM changed last year by Pleiades specialists in Sawtry. Accumulators were replaced a few years ago and the pressure regulator is currently 'ticking' every 25 seconds.

4x new Good Year tyres fitted and the tracking/alignment was done in May 2022, 10,000 miles ago.

Interior is in good condition with no rips, tears, broken plastic, perfect headlining etc. Air-conditioning system had a lot of work done on it (new compressor, drier and pipework) in spring 2021 and was consistently blowing cold until this winter, when the compressor has been erratic about deciding to engage or not.

Fitted with a towbar and electrics.

I have receipts for parts bought/work done in my ownership, the original handbooks, the roof bars and the loadbed cover.

ASKING PRICE: £1500

My new years' resolution for not spending unnecessary money on more cars is already dwindling!

That looks really nice and it is also a reasonable asking price too, I would love this but I think my partner would kill me

Best of luck with this, I'm sure someone will be willing to look after this for years to come.
Cheers,
Miles

Satisfaction guaranteed or your dent back!
If it just about starts and drives, I'll probably buy it.

It hasn't sold yet if your new year's resolution is weakening...

It is great you have been 100% honest about it.....but it will be "has been welded and was patched before" that will be putting most off I would think....I get the feeling people run scared from rust/bodywork these days even if it has been fully eliminated.

I have a totally rust free XM that was damaged by some deer, it could be fixed relatively easily but I could not give the thing away as it stands despite the fact I have all the bits needed to fix it and the car is prep'd ready for the bits to be applied.

Good luck with the sale......nice cars those and S1's were soooo much longer lived and resistant than the S2 estates..

You're struggling to give away an XM you say? (I take it that's more a figure of speech, but you never know lol)

I am, in fact I have decided to scrap it after taking off all the bits I need that will fit on a Xantia I am at presently fixing.....

XM's are worth Bu@@er all........even a rust free one.

I have noticed that XM prices in France have been steadily rising for a couple of years, especially for V6s. I think that UK prices will follow when the scarcity of nice ones becomes apparent.

I do not think that at all.....the customer base is very very different......in the Uk it is getting very "old" now and the XM (like the Xantia) has never had much love outside a very limited few.

Wow... Thought they would've held some value at least. If it wasn't other end of the country (and we weren't already picking up a project ZX) I'd have been seriously interested. Love me an XM, especially when it's not rusty!

Edit- actually just in case this falls through last minute, how much are you looking for & what parts needed to put back roadworthy?

Also, apologies to OP for the hijack!
