Getting back to the new battery, was the BSI reset procedure followed, as without doing so can also lead to phantom faults?

The garage did say they tried to do a BSI reset but could not find the correct documentation on this for a Citroen DS5 Hybrid. Any help with the correct BSI reset procedure would be appreciated.

This is what it says in the handbook:-

Following reconnection of the battery
After reconnecting the battery, switch on the
ignition and wait 1 minute before starting to
allow initialisation of the electronic systems.

Referring to the corresponding section, you
must yourself reinitialise or reset certain
systems, such as:
-
the remote control or electronic key
(depending on version),
-
the electric blind(s),
-
the electric windows
-
the date and time,
-
the radio preset stations.

The only official document I have is in regards to a Peugeot 207 but I expect the principles are the same across the PSA range.

1. Disconnection of the ancillaries battery
1.1. Position the vehicle in a suitable spot
As a safety precaution, it is recommended that the battery disconnection operation is carried out in the following conditions :
Ventilated area
Area with clear access
Flat area
1.2. Apply the handbrake
For vehicles fitted with an electric handbrake (FSE) : Pull the application button for 3 seconds (A message appears).
N.B. : If the parking brake cannot be released using the electric control, use the manual release system which permits activation of the parking brake mechanical release (Refer to the vehicle’s handbook).
1.3. Check the position of the selector lever
For vehicles fitted with an automatic gearbox or piloted manual gearbox :
Apply the handbrake
Position the selector lever in the neutral position "N"
1.4. Customer personalisation
Note :
The radio stations stored in the audio system
The radio configuration
1.5. Openings and access
CAUTION : For vehicles fitted with a "Belgian" type alarm, leave the bonnet open to prevent activation of the alarm.
If the vehicle is parked in a covered and secure area, leave at least one window open and check that the other accesses are closed. Otherwise, lock all the doors and remove the key from inside the vehicle.
N.B. : Mechanically lock the lock concerned to deactivate the unnecessary electrical power consuming equipment.
CAUTION : When the ancillaries battery is disconnected, the boot cannot be opened on vehicles equipped with a motorised boot.
When carrying out an "ancillaries battery disconnected" operation requiring opening of the boot, disengage the motorised function of the boot before disconnecting the ancillaries battery.
Method for disengaging the motorised function of the boot :
Open the boot
Disengage the motorised function (short manual action down then up)
Mechanically lock the lock using a tool (which results in the boot light switching off)
N.B. : If disengagement is not possible, close and open the boot electrically. Re-open the boot lock mechanically. Repeat the procedure for disengaging the motorised function of the boot.
1.6. Check that the ignition is off and remove the key from the ignition
CAUTION : For vehicles fitted with a hands-free starting system, move the remote control more than 3 metres away from the vehicle.
Check that nothing is connected on the diagnostic socket.
1.7. Get out of the vehicle and close the door
CAUTION : Mechanically lock the lock concerned to deactivate the unnecessary electrical power consuming equipment.
The door can be left open for a specific requirement, but the unnecessary electrical power consuming equipment must be deactivated (Refer to paragraph 1.5).
1.8. Waiting time before disconnecting the ancillaries battery
Wait 4 minutes for the vehicle’s power consuming equipment to switch to standby before disconnecting the ancillaries battery.
N.B. : For vehicles equipped with a type AL4 automatic gearbox the waiting time before disconnecting the ancillaries battery is 12 minutes.
1.9. Disconnect the ancillaries battery
Disconnect the ancillaries battery starting with the negative terminal.
N.B. : If inaccessibility makes this impossible, start by disconnecting the ancillaries battery positive terminal.
1.10. Closing of doors
Mechanically unlock the closed doors (paragraph 1.5) if the vehicle is parked outside.
2. Reconnection of the ancillaries battery
2.1. Check the safety advice before reconnecting the ancillaries battery
Observe the following safety advice :
Ventilated area
Area with clear access
Flat area
Ignition off
Key out of the vehicle
No one inside the vehicle
2.2. Reconnect the ancillaries battery
It may be necessary to check the condition of the ancillaries battery.
N.B. : Identify the polarities of the ancillaries battery. If possible, reconnect the positive terminal then the negative terminal.
2.3. Check the spade terminals of the ancillaries battery

Position the spade terminals of the ancillaries battery in contact with the base of the ancillaries battery terminals.
Check the locking of the ancillaries battery spade terminals.
2.4. Switch on the ignition
CAUTION : Do not start the engine.
Check that there are no error messages or error indicator lamps.
Analyse any faults and reset ; Using a diagnostic tool (if necessary).
2.5. Restore the operation of the deactivated accesses
Restore the operation of the deactivated accesses.
N.B. : Check the operation.
2.6. Observe the waiting time after reconnecting the ancillaries battery
Wait one minute after reconnecting the ancillaries battery.
N.B. : For vehicles fitted with an automatic gearbox or piloted manual gearbox, wait 2 minutes.
2.7. Start the engine
Check that the engine starts without any difficulty.
2.8. Check the initialisation of the accesses safety auto-reverse function
Check the correct operation of the following components and items :
One-touch electric windows
One-touch sunroofs
One-touch blind
2.9. Check the operation of the parking brake
For vehicles fitted with an electric parking brake, check that it is operating correctly by applying and releasing it.
2.10. Switch off the ignition
Check that there are no error messages or error indicator lamps.
Analyse any faults and reset ; Using a diagnostic tool (if necessary).
2.11. Check that the central closing operates
Press the buttons of the remote control several times to check its operation.
2.12. Customer personalisation
Repair :
The time
The radio stations stored in the audio system
The radio configuration
2.13. Informing the customer
Inform the customer that certain functions may be temporarily unavailable due to reinitialisation :
Stop function (stop and start)
heating/ventilation
Navigation

I was wondering Craig. Does the car drive well? Are there any dash warning nags? Are all systems seemingly operational? Do the parking sensors and reverse camera work as intended etc?
It's not unherad of to find a fault code or two (there's at least three on my 05 C5) that keep returning yet don't seem to cause any ill-effects or downgrades and can be safely ignored.

Hi Mike yes the warning message appears on startup "Engine Repair needed" and service light remains on.

The car drives fine but does not go into electric mode as is a hybrid, the reason for not going into electric mode is because of the "Engine Repair needed" message.

Any major faults and it will not allow the car to use the hybrid system.

Ok the car is still at the garage and are struggling to resolve at the moment, spoke to the guy last night the codes that they are showing up on Lexia are pointing to the Alternator belt? so today they are going to change the alternator belt and reset the change on the ECU/BSI.

I have done a bit of digging about regarding the problem and came across similar problems on the 3008 Hybrid which is near enough the identical car, 2 problems indicated was the Alternator belt and having it reset via the ECU like the garage have indicated and also the other one was a problem with a faulty Electric Vacum Pump for the Brake Servo.

Will hear back from them today.

********UPDATE********

Ok the garage have fixed the problem,

What needed to be done was a new alternator belt and then reset the hybrid ecu to accept the new belt.

The garage is not sure why it through up so many fault codes (may have been to the failing battery) which it also had but was not the main cause, they initially removed most of the codes and then started to try and resolve the issue which was pointing to an alternator belt.

The main fault was saying " ( ancillary drive belt worn and break imminent ) " and apparently this seems to be ( I suspect silent recall introduced in bsi upgrade software ) add a counter to number starting from rev-alternator - this problem was also on another forum on a 3008 hybrid which a near identical cars.

So if you do get this problem then change the belt and reset the ecu for the new belt.

Link to the thread i found on another forum regarding the problem.

Would like to thank everyone for all there help with this and much appreciate.

It would probably have caused less aggravation if the warning were not present and the belt just snapped. At least the fault would be obvious.

Really not sure why Citroen would program this into the ECU under "Engine Fault Repair Needed" why don't they just have a warning advisory message to say "Alternator Belt Needs Replacing"

I've actually only just seen this post, (I wasn't actually subscribed to this Sub-Forum  so that was the reason I wasn't getting notifications), so wasn't ignoring the requests.

Glad you have sorted the issue - but there are some issues with accessing data for some DS Vehicles at present - the VIN is not being accepted on a lot of these. I have fired off a support request to PSA Groupe concerning this.
