electronic manuals...

Post by pseud »

Hello Good Folk

New to this new forum - but it seems the right tool for the job in preference to For Sale & Wanted

I got an 'electronic manual' from these guys many moons ago (2012 irc):
https://www.emanualonline.com/Cars/Citr ... logue.html

They supplied a VM windows installation with a 'back up' installed of what appeared to be the official Citroen Service Backup Documentation repair-shop manual - it all seemed a bit dodgy, but very useful...

Anyway, I didn't much care for VM Ware so changed the VM Ware image to a QEMU/KVM image - it took a bit of doing but the folk at EMaunual Online were very helpful with providing new Activation codes whenever I changed the drivers on the VM machine (which triggered a reset in the electronic manual). But, last time I asked a couple of weeks ago - they said the source of their codes now charged (when they used to get them for free) and that I should buy a new manual from them which no longer required an Activation code - they offered at 25% discount as a valued customer...

That got me to thinking - is there a better way?

What's the 'correct' or best way to get hold of one of these electronic manuals/ spare parts catalogues.

I notice that easydiagnostics.co.uk has an offer that bundles the 'Service Box' software:
http://www.easydiagnostics.co.uk/latest ... 4594288277

I really rather not got through the hassle of getting the VM Ware image from EManual Online and then move it over from VM Ware to KVM, again...

Any ideas?

The official manuals are chargeable - tokens for access can be bought from PSA. The other ones mentioned are no longer available and have not been for some years so will not cover later models.

You've got access to parts, but technical documents are chargeable are very thin on the ground for early cars including Xantias.

The offline versions are no longer available - all online now, so you won't have access to anything 2013 on and by the same token, earlier cars like the XM and Xantia have not had all their documentation converted and uploaded online given the age of the vehicles, so is very limited.

Most of what was available was paper-based anyway, and is therefore not viable for PSA to convert these (if they even have them now) for the work involved. So if you want info on Earlier cars you will have to track down somebody that has managed to acquire a paper-based copy of an ex-workshop manual, usually from a franchise getting rid of old documentation.

For example:
