Backwards compatibility?
after selling the X7, at the time i had no use for the Easydiagnostics kit i purchased, laptop still has Diagbox on it, 7.51 i think?
however today i remembered i still had an earlier VCI running on Lexia 3/PP2000 which i had when i purchased the X7 which i'm sure did talk to it.
so today fired up the laptop and connected to the 'new' C5, however no communication with ECU and comes up with message about some sort of 'module' missing?
dont panic i will go back out later and re-try and get proper info!!
so at the moment am i potentially wasting time and possibly need to re-purchase later VCI or wipe off and load Lexia 3 back on?

Re: Backwards compatibility?
If it's the X7 you'll need Diagbox - the older Lexia won't have the necessary software to talk to the later ECUs.
If you can get some more specific info that might help.

Re: Backwards compatibility?
rightio, round 2!
car is an '06 not the X7
start Diagbox
enter VIN manually under C5 R, won't detect auto
get to Lexia/Scantool > select lexia and get this..
click 'ignore' then wait a short moment then i think it was RPO?
enter RPO then to Global Test? enter to this..
or maybe Global Test after?
next step gets to this..
whichever you choose...
then after stepping back...
pics 2 and 3 'may' be the wrong way round?
RPO number...i've entered 2 different ones with same result, have i entered wrong ones?
if so, can i get the correct one? i know about the A pillar sticker, just unsure which is correct?

Re: Backwards compatibility?
Ok, what version of windows are you running? Is it a 32 or 64 bit operating system? That error concerns a 16 bit Virtual Device Driver - if you are running a 64 bit Operating System you can't use the Encapsulated Lexia or PP2000 programmes within Diagbox - Windows 64 bit operating systems don't run 16 bit code.

Re: Backwards compatibility?
Right-click ‘My Computer’, then click on ‘properties’. If you see "x64 Edition" anywhere then you are running a 64 bit version, if not, then it’s the 32 bit version.

Re: Backwards compatibility?
Right so that rules that one out. If the unit is missing some hardware, it won’t talk to the C5. So is this the older unit you had, which you then replaced with a newer one?

Re: Backwards compatibility?
Yes, this is the older VCI but i'm sure it talked to the X7 using Lexia / PP software. I then purchased a later Diagbox VCI from Easydiagnostics, the software from which that i'm now using on laptop is v07.51. As i'd sold the X7 in May '15 i sold the VCI on but kept the Diagbox installation
At some stage i needed to replace laptop but not sure when?
i 'think' old laptop ran Lexia PP and this one only ran Diagbox.
from memory, with the newer VCI, i did have some issues with not being able to communicate with all the ECU's on the X7 but because it had so many issues i put it down to the car

Re: Backwards compatibility?
Ok, so what might be happening with this new info is that you have a newer Diagbox software version installed on the laptop, but you are using the older VCI if I understand you correctly.
So what may be happening is that the VCI has the older firmware installed from an earlier version of the software. Normally, the VCI is updated automatically to the correct firmware as you apply Diagbox version upgrades. As this is a different VCI, it may not have been updated with the newer firmware needed.
So I would suggest applying an update to V7.58 which will update the VCI firmware automatically.
If you need the update, let me know.

Re: Backwards compatibility?
OK thanks.
I'm not sure if i can still get the Easydiagnostics access? I think V07.51 i'm running was the original installation or at least upgraded on inital installation
i have discs/downloads but only to V07.2 so if you have 7.58 it would help...hopefully

Re: Backwards compatibility?
I was, when I got my disks, able (after the installation) to let DiagBox (via Internet access) upgrade itself. However, in my case, once it hit 7.16 the systems failed (due to the version of the chipset), so I rolled it back, and now I don't let it access the Internet. It upgrades one level at a time, rather then in major jumps.

Re: Backwards compatibility?
You cannot update these versions via the internet - they have not been 'modified'. You will deactivate the unit if you do.Hell Razor5543 wrote: ↑27 Apr 2018, 09:37 I was, when I got my disks, able (after the installation) to let DiagBox (via Internet access) upgrade itself.
