Hey all, bought a '96 Laguna 1800RN in need of a little work the other day (knackered gearbox) which has a niggly little problem that i missed at the time of purchase. Basically theres play in the steering wheel, and i was wondering how to go about repairing it?, the actual column itself seems secure so there must be something else at fault (and if anyone has an exploded diagram of the column i would be most grateful as i haven't laid my hands on a Haynes manual for it yet!). I'm hoping that its going to be as simple as replacing a bush, but can anyone tell me if the wheel itself will need to be removed?, i can't afford to pay main dealer prices to have it done..i'm replacing the gearbox and doing all the other jobs myself, very much 'budget' motoring i'm afraid.
Cheers, Jon.

Make sure the battery is disconnected FIRST & wait at least 10 minutes before unplugging it!
Id wear some good eye protection & keep out of the airbags line of fire as well.
There should be a couple of torx screws holding the airbag which you can get at from behind the wheel, Have a feel for them & turn the wheel to get at them.

Someone posted up the diagram of the column on another forum for me. Still getting told that no spares are available for the column though, its got to be replaced as a whole...gonna head back to the scrappy where i got my gearbox from, pull the column out of the Laguna i've robbed all the other bits out of...
