2008 Renault Trafic / Vauxhall Vivaro left over connector

Post by Paul-R »

It's actually a Vivaro but let's not get wrapped up in that!

I replaced the starter motor in my daughter's 2.0CDt over the weekend using the remove front end method rather than from underneath as I didn't have a ramp.

As I reached the end of the work I found that there was connector left over. It comes out of the loom going to the left hand headlamp but all four headlamp sockets are filled and, anyway, it's longer than those.

So what is it for? It seems to fit into a plastic clip on edge of the front panel and that's where I've left it doubled back to keep it from dropping down. The first photo shows it pulled out to full length and the second more detail of the plug end. Just two wires, red and black.

There is sign of verdigris so it may not be used on this model but I'd just like to know.

While we're in the area, in the first photo, bottom left, shows what looks like a bleed point for the cooling system but I can't for the life of me work out how to use it.

Just two wires would suggest spot lamp fog lamp or horn.

There is an unused connector as well for foglamps behind the LH wheelarch liner. Horn is connected and behind the bumper. This one is up top and is just so strange. My brother reckons that it's for a sensor of some kind given the small size of the terminals.

The brake master cylinder looks pretty new and I wonder whether the old one had a switch to detect if one circuit fails. There's still a fluid level switch in the reservoir so it's not that.

Connect a bulb to it and see if any of the switches turn it on.

Good thinking. I was in too much of a hurry to finish the main job to do much investigation band daughter was champing at the bit to drive down to Glastonbury. If I get some with it when she gets back I'll investigate further.
