2011 Renault Megane Sport Tourer - Alloy Wheels

Post by spako »

I've just bought 2011 Renault Megane Sport Tourer 1.5 dCi 110 Expression+ which came with 5 stud 15" steel wheels.

I'm thinking of getting 16" or 17" alloy wheels.

According to the handbook, the recommended tyre size is 195/65/15 or 205/55/16. The Michelin web site also lists 205/50/17 as an acceptable option.

Would it be better to get 17" wheels or is it an overkill for this car?

What is the stud diameter (5 x 114 or 5 x 114.3 or something else), rim width and offset that will fit this car?

Any particular alloys that look exceptionally nice on Megane Estate?

What is the best place to buy second hand or new alloy wheels?

Or perhaps anyone on the forum has such alloys for sale?

Any info greatly appreciated.

If you Google alloy wheel fitment guide it will tell you the pcd, et, and centre bore for your car. The pcd is the diameter of the centre point of the wheel studs, eg my older renault megane is 4 x 100, et is the offset, I guess most cars are around 38 to 40, but some are a lot less. A couple of mm of difference in offset won't make much difference, but a big difference might need spacers, or not work at all. The centre bore is the diameter of the lip on the brake discs which hold the wheels steady on the hubs. If the wheel has a bigger centre bore than the hub then you need spigot rings in the correct size to fit the wheels properly. Then it is very possible that you will need different nuts or studs to fit the wheels. I would think that genuine renault wheels would be a perfect fit for all factors, but still may need different nuts, but would not guarantee this.the best wheels to get would be if you can find a set of megane alloys from the same model style, as I said my 55 plate earlier model has only 4 studs. I hope this has explained things, it can be a minefield changing wheels, and remember to inform your insurance as they will class any change as a modification, and may not pay out if the worst does happen.

Just had a quick look, laguna mk2 wheels are 5x108, your megane is 5x114. I think those wheels are laguna mk2 wheels and therfore won't work. I shall look better tomorrow when I am more awake!

The only genuine renault wheels which will fit are from a megane mk3, or a laguna mk 3. They are 5 x 114, all other renaults are 5 x 108. You won't find genuine alloys for them cheap, I had a quick look and even from breakers they are 75 to 100 pounds for just one wheel. 16" or 17" will make no difference to the fitting with the size of tyres you stated. The bigger the wheel, the lower the profile to give the same rolling radius, at the expense of ride comfort.

What about this set:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301701947864

They are 5x114.3 6.5J 16" ET47 as per the original ones so should fit my car nicely, do you agree?

Yes, that should fit your car perfectly, without spigot rings. A set of 205/55x16 decent tyres on them and it's all good.
