Help with CLIP and injection

Post by xsaras4ever »

Hello to all once again.

Can anyone help/teach us/point us in the right direction.

We bought a Megane (2003) 1,5dci with injection failure. We fitted another injection pump, common rail and injectors and did the timing belt and waterpump at the same time. The car had also been idle for some time, without a battery connected.

Our friend brought his Bosch gadget from work and coded the injectors - the Megane refused to fire up.

Our friend gave us another set of injectors and we fitted them - but then he couldn't get the Bosch tool again so we bought and installed a chinese CLIP, V140.

It connects to the car and can automatically get the VIN.

If you do automatic test of all computers, it says "Some Computers not Responding to Diagnostics" and under "Not Detected" it lists

120 - INJECTION 1232 - Variable PAS 756 - AIRBAG/PRETENSIONERS

If you go into Programming , Select INJECTION , it successfully searches for data, click validate , validate info displayed , click ok to re-programming message , click next ,

It then checks battery voltage - with a new battery its 10.9 , with another battery (with jumpleads) + charger connected it reads 11.1 on clip even though at the terminals its 12.37 .

Clip does transmission and then the following error message

"FAULTY TRANSMISSION - CONTACT THE COMPUTERS CORRESPONDANT - REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE INTERRUPTED"

We are a newbie with CLIP so help would be greatly appreciated.

In the meantime we are going to make those leads on the car spotless and try again.

I don't have Clip. Diagnostic socket may be the problem though. The Injection computer on some Renault (mine) is actually the Main ECU. The other one is UCH, which is probably a similar thing to The Comms unit on a CIT.

There's an awful lot to go at with a dCi that's playing up, hence why there are so many for sale with 'injection fault'. It's cheaper to buy another car that pay to have a dCi repaired by a specialist.

Anyhow here's a few things, I don't know what your level of knowledge is so don't take this as criticism.

Have you taken out the UPC next to the battery and checked that over for water ingress and blown fuses - very common problem, the UPC is the power switching/protection unit. Whilst you've got that out check the large fuses and relays. Have you got hold of appropriate wiring diagrams and factory manuals to be able to interpret the fault codes given by Clip and also able to run the necessary commands after replacing the fuel pump? An empty pump needs a particular command running to re-prime it. Also bear in mind that the 1.5 dCi comes in many forms - different horsepower ratings with 3 or 4 different injection systems, the codes generated and their fixes are sometimes specific to the injection system used.

Renaults are notorious for wiring loom problems so if the electric modules checkout I'd be planning on stripping back the loom tape and checking continuity on the looms around the battery area, it's a long tiresome job but I doubt there's any other way unless you start metering between connectors. Once again manufacturers service manauls are needed. Alternatively do what I did and buy the french version of the Haynes manual off ebay - "Revue Technique".

Hope that points you in the right direction.

Steve.

Hello again and thank you for the responses.

We will clean the Diag socket, though we doubt it has a problem , not like our clone Lexia which is always playing-up.

Thanks for the excellent response Mark, we will start on the fuses and relays and the UPC.

Strangely, the priming bulb for the diesel never gets stiff when you pump - is this normal for the Megane ?

When you turn over the engine with the injector nuts undone there is little or no diesel coming through - a vary rare spit. Thats just probably air pressure pumping through.

Is FORCE a dangerous option on CLIP when you are looking at the computers on the car ?

Our french friend used to manually read the codes from the injectors, code them into his BOSCH and that was it. We do not know if he issued a priming command but when he tried our car it definately seemed that the pump was doing nothing.

Our Megane is 1.5dci and we think it is 120hp.

No manuals, but we have just done a torrent on them, tons of PDF stuff came down.

Thanks Again

Off the top of my head, is the fuel pump running? You should hear it when you switch ignition on if they have an in tank pump. I also read the injection pump has to be timed even though it's common rail.

Nope, checked the tank - two wires (for fuel guage), not 4 wires - so no tank pump.

In case others, like me, search for this in future.

Found cure for the following is to have the reprog cd in the drive before this point in the process.
