Its booked in for cambelt and water pump next week at 175 quid along with new arb droplinks and they're going to have a look for the rattle. So hopefully no more than 250 max. It's still driving ok with mpg steady on 57, just crept over 80k this week. I'm still on my first tank of diesel but the gauge dropped below half this week. I noticed the centre brake light out but no time to check yet and the headlamps aren't all that brilliant so will upgrade the bulbs soon. I've used Osram Nightbreakers with good results before.

Don't know for sure about there being a filter in the turbo feed, I can't remember if there was one in mine, it's about a year since I rebuilt mine. All I would say is to use a oil flush at every change and be sure that the oil spec is correct, by that I mean the Acea number not just viscosity - the 1.9 130 FAP Scenic I had needed Acea 3 or 4 (can't remember which) but I remember it put the price up dramatically. I think but have no proof that most dead turbos end up that way because the oil doesn't meet the Acea spec needed leading to sludging and the generation of too much ash which blocks the DPF.

What is the engine code - K9K ???, mine a K9K 728.

Well got new cambelt and waterpump today. They also changed the droplinks but I've still got the rattle! Engine code is K9K, car spec is JP0D05??? :? Don't know what that means though. It's a Dynamique 80, says 60KW in the logbook. On the M5 at a steady 60mph last week I got 72.6 to the gallon, the most I've ever had out of any motor. I was taking it steady because I didn't know what the cambelt was like. According to the onboard computer it did 135 miles on 2 gallons, now I know these aren't deadly accurate but it must be somewhere near. I did read that rear shockers can snap on these so will check them tomorrow. Once the rattle is sorted it will be quite pleasant to drive.

I can believe the MPG, driving back that 1.5 dCi of mine it was for the most part averaging 71+ mpg and it had faulty injectors and serious mileage related wear.

We are having a few days in Llandudno. On the way up the car was faultless, it drove lovely. The mpg dropped last week commuting but has been creeping back up and stands at 65.8 right now. It really is a pleasure to drive and has enough power when required. The rattle is still present and annoying but I noticed today rolling slowly down a bumpy carpark a slight touch on the brake quietened it down so possibly brake or suspension related.

Got back home today. Car drove lovely again. Mpg was 66.8 since last fill up so very pleased with that. I took it over 70mph a couple of times when passing but mostly hovered around 60 coming back. I will start tracking down the rattle now as it is very annoying, saying that the missus slept all the way back for 2 hours.

How do you describe the rattle on your car? On my modus it sounded like a muffled sound from behind the dash somewhere. I never resolved the issue sadly.....

It sounds very much like the exhaust drumming on the body Howie. Heard more at low revs or when the engine is working a bit, on a neutral throttle at say 60mph it's hardly noticeable. It definitely sounds like it's coming from the front somewhere, I was hoping to have a good look today as the weather was nice but the old back is playing up right now so didn't want to aggravate it.

Got home from work yesterday and noticed I had no brake lights! I had my dinner and went to investigate, fuse ok, switch duff. Damn, luckily it's easy to get in and out with a simple bayonet fitting. I managed to get it apart enough to scrape the contacts with a terminal screwdriver but on refitting it was still a bit hit and miss. I bought one at EuroCarParts on the way home from work today. It was very unnerving driving knowing I could be rear ended at any time so decided to fit the new one outside ECP rather than risk driving home in rush hour traffic. I also bought a bulb for the centre brake light but that didn't make any difference so needs more work but the two lower ones are fine.

Centre brake light now working although they only sold me a 5w bulb instead of a 21w. Appears to have been dirty contacts, I just tweaked them, pushed the plug on and off a few times and I now have three brake lights.
