Clio 1.5 DCi Injector Leak

I'm trying to help a friend with a poorly Clio (Mk3 1.5 DCi). Smell of diesel and combustion product in the cabin and around the engine, and sounds like a little steam train, so I took a look to find this:



From what I can gather injector seals are a common problem. Garage has tried to remove the injector without success, and has advised the cylinder head needs to come off. This seems somewhat drastic to me! I've read the injectors can get stuck but a proper injector puller should get them shifted?

Must be some fluid you can use to loosen that.
Maybe some solvent like Trich or similar plus proper puller. What miles on it? Is it individual clamps for injectors?

I've been reading, the best way to tackle this is to loosen the injector clamp, then run the engine. Injector should rattle loose after a while

Cellulose thinners will shift that crap. Mine were a lot worse, put thinners on and then use an old toothbrush to shift it.
